getting then lads ??? how long this taken lol
The tressels belong to Alex's dad, and I really wouldn't want to be the one who calls him gay lol
Erm, well I collected the car in November last year... so nearly a year so far :D
The tressels belong to Alex's dad, and I really wouldn't want to be the one who calls him gay lol
I'll second that!
I'll second that!
3rded lol
Altthough I like him a lot, he's just as nuts with car trivia as i am.
omfg I touched the nova lol
I've put the 20XE wiring loom in place, most of the wires have connected up with no problems but I've got a couple left over which I'm not sure about. There's two on the gearbox side of the loom:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Cars/Project%20Ghey/20012008043.jpg
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Cars/Project%20Ghey/20012008042.jpg
Does one of them connect to this?
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Cars/Project%20Ghey/20012008046.jpg
I've also got this coming off the engine which I'm not sure what it is. Doesn't appear to be a connector in the loom to suit it:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Cars/Project%20Ghey/20012008052.jpg
Finally, next to this connector is a little tab (just to the right of the connector block) - when the C20XE loom was connected to the engine, it had a separate wire with a female spade connector which clipped onto the top; however the 20XE loom doesn't have this wire. Am I right in thinking its something like oil pressure?

General Baxter
20-01-08, 10:07 PM
the one comming from the sump round connector with 2 pins, just cut it off, its a low oil level light i think lol
the bit you called the little tab is the water temp, the red plug thats in your hand is for the knock sensor im sure found under the inlet attched to the block, the other i aint to sure
gsiboy21
20-01-08, 11:22 PM
yes the little tab as you called it should have a blue wire connected to it for the temp gauge the one on the sump you don't use as it's the oil level sensor and the oil light on the nova works on preusser and the two near the box go to the knock sensor and the idle speed control valve witch are at the rear of the engine under the inlet manifold
That other plug is for the icv iirc (silver thing in your pic)

You hairy buggerlol
lol, dont worry about them jack, ill sort when im up next.
If you do want a job you could plumb it in though :)
Radiator and etc?
I'm guessing the best way to sit the rad in place is to remove the exhaust manifold and slide it in from below?
best way is to remove fan from rad , and fit that, then refit fan ,
best way IMO is cut out the bar on the fron of the car that goes vertically from slma panel to lower X-member.
Remove grill, then the rad/fan will go in nicely through that gap!
Nobody minces like I do. My car doesn't run but I still faff about with pointless stuff

Not fixed in place yet so its not quite level, but goes on rather well :D
Is that a proper GM spoiler for a loon Jack?
P.s. May be able to sort you out with a snow plough front too mate :thumb:
EDIT: Linking the shiny tie bar brackets too
Its not GM, but I have a feeling I know where it came from though.
Painted a few bits today, TCAs, tie bar brackets and alternator pulley (had it lathed down to single V yesterday). Poly bushes will be going in the TCAs and brackets tomorrow :D
^ You feeling alright Jack? You seem to be knuckling down some what lol lol

ps have you unwrapped that brace yet? bet it took awhile my mum was there ages wrapping it up round and round with the tape lol
Yeah, took a while to get into it lol

Actually my lungs are burning a bit, but I put that down to using some meths in the garage. With the door shut. Whoops :tard:

lol i do it all the time and im still ok ('ish)
Well cover me in eggs and flour, and bake me for 40 minutes! We got it running! I was convinced due to it being a dodgy looking engin sourced from somewhere dodgy, and then left to sit in the barn for a year, we were going to have plenty of issues. But luckily, we didnt :)
As per the fecking way of the project, it fought us some of the way, right down to the final wiring where the engine harness had black with a yellow trace for switched live, and blue for fuel pump!! Uber gay! Lots of mincing in scrapyards removing loads of obscure stuff like eath straps and terminal cables etc :) Had a fun couple of days!
Next week, we intend to finish it :) Wheelspins up the track! W00t lol

Sounds like you boys made some headway today then? good.
Thats 2 more SW Novas showing some promise.
Captain Mince will be along later with pics no doubt lol
EDIT: just realised Mr Deacon, youve been useless at keeping this WIP up to date as well!!!! Ive merged all the threads i can find for ya :)
Nice one.
Is it an early Astra gte engine by any chance? ;)
Yep. Early 20XE. I nearly tore the fuel punp off and dashed it agaist a brick lol
Holy Mo'fo camel poo! Its alive! My god Jackolas, after starting this WiP thread in erm, years ago its actually nearly there lol lol
LOL I abandoned this WIP as I couldn't be ****d bumping it back up each time I made an irregular update.
My official WIP is linked in my sig, if you haven't seen it, its a rather nice little site :p Although thats not been updated for a while either, whoops lol

Lee does look like he's got issues in that pic. Like his Mums taken his toys away or summat.
Extreme minceage today lol
Engine is pretty much fin, although there was a slight panic when we thought Lee might have worked his usual XE magic on it :p Just turned out to be a wonky cam gear - still had one spare from the pair Phil sent, so that got put on and all is well again.
Temporary 284 discs are on, but silly me forgot the calipers :gay:
dash is pretty much all in, so its just the exhaust and calipers to sort, then put the seats back in and tidy up...
good to here it. so not much longer now then
Yep. Got some updates to put on the Mk2 dash swap thread as well, the wiring is ubersuperduperfunfunjoy
I only melted one wire though, I blame lee for leaving the battery on :D
lol thats something i wouldnt like to attempt myself but glad it went well
lol lol
You look slightly depressed lol
He needs a cuddle, bless him.
lol thats something i wouldnt like to attempt myself but glad it went well
Dead easy really :D
Only fail is when you're upside down with a belly full of Chinese food, trying to crimp wires with a hand that has RSI lol
lol yea that might make it more difficult. So it is going to make pvs now then?
lol thought it was broken :( if there was no pulley cover, it would have spat the belt off! Oh, and jack shall now be known as captain crimp from crimpington! Tomorrow, lots of wheelspinny goodness :)

Ash, no, these are the second ones I bought as a temporary fit whilst I STILL wait the originals I ordered - which have now taken 4 weeks, and the company still haven't contacted me despite promises to ring me
Few more pics from today:
Yummy big fat calipers fitted
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Cars/Project%20Ghey/10052008360.jpg

Took the car out for a quick spin - vid to follow, as its 60mb and YouPoob is having a brain fart trying to upload it - which was amusing to say the least. All Alex's neighbours are now deaf, there's a massive wheelspin mark up the road, and Lee broke the gear linkage lmfao lol
Got it back and fixed the broked bits, gave it a quick wash:

there's a massive wheelspin mark up the road,
Wheelspins FTW! :thumb:
I did a fscking wheelspin when I drove it, but that didn't involve the tyres on the car lol
LOL, i still find it amusing that you drive a Celica GT4, yet are intimidated by an XE nova with no exhaust lol

Good to hear its alive and running then :)

Doesnt have one at present, its still to be sourced. Plenty of adjustment availiable when he gets one to get the loom sat right :)

Fcuk off, fat tyres are where its at - they're actually my favourite bit of the car (aside from the boot of course :D). 60 profile at the mo, I'm thinking maybe pushing it to 65 come tyre replacement time :D

Mincetastic. Painted up the mk2 rear bumper, needs a couple more coats though. Crappy halfords paint. Also gave the SR front another coat as my dad had put it in the shed and scrubbed half the paint off

Nice one Jack! You did end up getting it running before me. Though you had help...... So it doesnt count.
Looking good, will look sweet with the bumpers & twin lamps in.
Ground off most of the rust on the back and filled the resultant holes with fibreglass filler. No pics of this as its an uber bodge and looks awful, but hey its solid lol
Once that was done, rear bumper was fitted:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Cars/Project%20Ghey/18052008384a.jpg
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Cars/Project%20Ghey/18052008386a.jpg
Drilled holes in the rear quarters so I could use the proper side mounts for the Mk2 bumper, although I forgot what a PITA those bolts are to work with. Not quite happy with the way its sitting, so might try to straighten it up next weekend.
Wired in two dash speakers, again no pics as its nothing exciting to see. Put in power cable for amps, and power for head unit when that goes in.
Final bit of mince this evening was some bling for the calipers:

They dont call it good for nothing.... good for something!
Fitted rear window surrounds today, and got the headunit powered up and connected to the front speakers.
Still no exhaust though, might have to figure out some way of taking it to a local exhaust place - if I can find one - and having them fit the one I have. 2 weeks to PVS.... hmmm

You could be onto a winner there :D although I'm not sure about subbing you for petrol on the frontera, i might need another loan lol
Might be a bit hard to get a day off this week, although I have tuesday off. Will see if I can find out local exhaust places and sort the insurance that day.
Yeah cool, do that. Petrol isnt that bad TBH, and it'll only be one trip so it should be about the same as the nova was for 2 days :)
Trailer badly needs some tyres lol, ill see if i can sort this weekend.
Couple little touches today - central locking is in and working, stuck the drivers side door card and handle on, also wired in the interior light delay

Nice one :)
Still on for Tuesday do you rekon?
Should be, I'll ask Craig where he had his done and give them a ring first thing tuesday morning, see if they can do it in the afternoon.
Get some back up numbers as well. :)
Have you sorted insurance yet, or got a policy lined up? :) (you know what im thinking here lol)
Liking that interior light delay device, what parts did you use to do that??
looking good now bud. not much left to do now
You can buy the light delays off ebay, although its not hard to make one. I'm lazy though lol
I might move it elsewhere so it doesn't stay on when I use the interior light switch on the headlamp control, orrrr wire in a few more interior lights. The 10 second thing is a bit too long for my liking.
Wonder if I could put one on the sidelight relay as well... hmmmm :D
Have you sorted insurance yet, or got a policy lined up? :) (you know what im thinking here lol)
Will ring HIC, Flux and Sky (they do me on the Celica so may offer a decent discount on a second car) Tuesday morning. HIC were giving me quotes of <£290 on their old online system, so will be looking to pay no more than £300 really.
Just had a nose through Craig's WIP and he got his exhaust done at TSR in Bridgwater, so they'll be the main choice for exhausty goodness.
Booked into TSR for next Tuesday, thats the earliest they can do it. Hopefully they can get it on within a day, that gives me three days to MOT and tax it in time for PVS. Ho ho ho.... :wtf:

TSR was Tim Stiles Racing, years ago. They were pretty much the UK's #1 VAG tuner. Tim sold the company to some clown that only had interests in building a company demo vehicle (Passat V8 IIRC), that went tits up & some local lad took over the premises/name & they seem to be doing a pretty good job by the looks of it. They appear to be busy 7 are still trading over a year after taking the helm.

All the lights are connected and working (indicators, headlights, sides) except for the inner spots as it was too dark and cold to feck about with those lol
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/razorjack/Cars/Project%20Ghey/05062008443.jpg
Jobs for tomorrow include bringing the car home (), getting the inner lamps working, wiring in the alarm and perhaps the central locking if I can be bothered, and putting in the sub, maybe a couple more speakers (only on the std dash jobbies at the mo).
[edit] Ash, I'll drop the indicators round tomorrow if you like? Ta muchly, I owe you a PVSburger lmfao
Tidy RJ, don't forget the tango lights when you come back.
That front bumper does look cool with those lights in. Think the grill might need to be blue tho... I'll pop round for a nose tomorrow ;)
I did some 'shops ages ago, and the blue just seemed to bland IMO.
Forgot to mention, tigerseal is a PITA to work with. Almost had uber catastrophic bumper fail due to it being crap and not holding the indicators in properly, but after a quick bodge and some luck, the lights are in and flush and relatively tidy. Advantage of black bumper: can't see all the excess sealant bodged round the indicators lol
Looking well and sounds muckin fint bud, sounds exactly like my old one, oh i need an XE`d nova again!

Nice one Jack! Good to be on the road?
Interesting to say the least!
Drove it back from Alex's this morning, only had one water leak which was an easy fix, although stopping at some traffic lights to see a massive cloud of (what I thought was smoke, but turned out to be) steam coming out from the front was a bit worrying, especially due to the threads about cars catching fire!
Cleared out all the crap inside, sorted the audio, and straightened the front end just now. Ash came over so had a ride in his 1.6, mine is quiet and refined in comparison lol
Might look into the alarm and central locking, but got a few bits and bobs to do first. Mainly, get food for tomorrow :D
Looking well and sounds muckin fint bud
lol I hate the noise, first thing I'm doing when I get some spare money is having TSR build a custom, QUIET, exhaust lol
where did the water leak from?

Good stuff RJ, glad to hear she's on the road :)
lol I hate the noise, first thing I'm doing when I get some spare money is having TSR build a custom, QUIET, exhaust lol
Nah you will be fine after pv, nice long jolly out with that zorst droning away and you will be permanently deaf so you wont need to bother getting a quieter system hehe....... deaf ppl and noisy novas ftw pmsl!
Ash came over so had a ride in his 1.6, mine is quiet and refined in comparison lol
FPMSL!
Alex wanted to ride in yours as mine was too noisy, I fear she may change her mind tomorrow lol
where did the water leak from?
offside matrix pipe, the hose just slipped off a bit. Pushed it back in, tightened up the jubilee clip and all is good again :D
I did top up the water to replace what it lost, and noticed this evening (after about 10 miles) the water had dropped quite low again...
I have one bucket seat in, lmfao. My dad welded some "mounts" to the passenger side subframe, which are totally fecking useless, so I couldn't put that one in :(
Hmm, its developed an annoying misfire under heavy(ish) acceleration :(
Got new plugs here, as I thought they could have fouled up, but I reckon it could be "porous" head, or the gasket has gone. Its drinking lots of water...
Any sign where the water is going? Probably worth cracking it open and change the gasket anyway, the cost of the parts is minimal really compaired to the problems and headaches it could cause. To give you an idea, GM parts for mine were £46 (Gasket and bolts)
I take it you know how to fix the 'porous' head? It about the only thing I know about (ghay) big blocks :p lol

Had a wee look round it at PVS and I really really like it
The Irmscher front end really sets it apart :)
Get the waterways sleeved I believe. Tempted to have that place out in the sticks take a look at it, which I can't remember the name of off the top of my head... Thornfalcon?
I don't think there's any more leaks, although I did notice a slight damp patch under the front when I was parked at Halfords last night, under the radiator (which did have a leak to begin with, bodged with radweld). Didn't see any drips though.
I'll do the plugs today and see what the old ones look like. Parts guy at Halfords couldn't get his head round how I have an Astra engine in a Nova, so no luck with a fuel pump there. Found an Nova MPi one on ebay though, £30... might plump for that as a spare.
Halfords couldn't get his head round how I have an Astra engine in a Nova, .
lol, that happens a lot. I find it easier to tell them I have an Astra when i need bits like that. Stops the poor guys getting confuzzled.
Jack, ill whip the head off my second engine disaster and see what its condition is. If its good, you can have it for a small fee :)
If you need a new rad, give me a shout. Sorted James (spud) out with one the other day - £45ish.
Well its running again, with all of its revs back :D
New fuel pump seems to have worked its magic. That is, after I put the connections on the correct way round, whoops lol Only managed to spill quarter tank over myself lol
Did notice the tank to pump fuel hose was looking pretty mashed inside - possibly what killed off the old pump - so I've replaced that as well. Just been out for a quick rant, so once its cooled down I'll check the water hasn't disappeared again.
Next week I'm back at work, so it'll be a test of how well the car performs as a daily hack.

wtf? That was a brand spanking new piece of hose?? :wtf: :tard:
Fcuk me, its just taken me about 10 minutes to find this thread again lol
Looky what I did today!

Needs to be lowered down a bit though, I was hoping I could get away without chopping all the metal off the back of the dash but no :(
Water temp doesn't work, handbrake light doesn't work, no oil pressure warning light, I have no air to the windscreen as I've taken the duct out to chop it, and I've not yet run a cable to the coil for revs, but the fuel and speedo work. BODGETASTIC
Oh, don't sit in your car all afternoon chopping bits off your dash and inhaling the dust. I feel like I've just had 20 pints.

What was wrong with your Nova clocks? lol
What was wrong with your Nova clocks? lol
Exactly that lol they were Nova clocks lol lol
LMFAO yes, thats about it. I hate the way they're lit, and they just look gash. Plus, I had these sat about from when I actually cared about doing stuff to the car so thought I'd give them a whirl :D
If I get another day free I might take the dash out and tidy up some of the wiring back there. Its a bit of a mess, and a few things need fixing properly
They do look cool.
Id put some in mine but it seems quite a task hacking the ducting etc all away
Its not so bad, but much much easier to take the dash out first IMO lol
I was a bit worried it would be weaker without the metal supports and rattle about but it seems quite solid

i can not confirm or deny the existance of project v6.

I can also confirm that all I have in my workshop is a big puddle of gearbox oil, and a load of empty Dr Pepper cans!!?? . Where they came from is a mystery!?
i have an idea. over to mr jack.........

wtf was up with it then?? lol the mind boggles.
At least it will be worth something when we strip it out again ;)
Remember the sealant we used between the inlet manifolds? I actually got off my backside and replaced with some proper O(mg)-rings! :d
That and did the CTS too, as the old one was.. erm... well the sensor side looked like a stalagmite and the connector side was buried under a few centimetres of oil where the rocker covers have thrown most of it out lol

Love the car Jack.
But i hate the wheels, the ride height and the whole black front end lol
Theres alot i would change if it was mine, but i still love it.
V6 Powaah !
Its a "daily" of sorts, so I'm not spending big money on wheels etc and the tyres are cheap. Plus they fill the arches nicely, with 195/45 tyres on they'd look lost, I' have to lower it more, wihch means a harsher ride etc... the roads down here are shoite.
Black front end is black because I CBA to paint it. Plus if I'm taking it to a show, I can just wazz it over with a satin black rattle can to tidy it up a bit lol This build, if you can call it that, is very very different to pretty much every other project on here - whilst people such as yourself spend their time making things look right, buying specific parts, painting and polishing things, I just stick on whatever and don't give a toss how it looks - ok, there's a few things I've taken a bit of time over, such as the rear spoiler, but in the most part its a case of bung it on and if it works then leave it.
Even crazy-kylie spent more time and effort making his car look "rat" lol
[edit] When I first got the quadlights, I considered painting them blue, but IMO it would have been too much blue on the front end and was easier to just paint it myself with cans. The bonnet was just tidied up with a few spare cans I had laying about. Was a bit unsure about that being black, but quite like it now
didn't realize they were Craigs old seats lol
i wondered where they went lol
does look good tho
Aye, I picked them up a while back now - if you ever want seats collecting let me know, as the Celica is perfect for fitting them in the back lol
