ive done this to mine as it lowers the centre of gravity = better handling lol
and it looks good.
but its not as loud and has very little punch.

Did you make a fibre glass box in the shape of the well around the sub to attach to the piece of wood on top?

no, just made a fake floor(mdf) and raised it up a little so the magnet didnt touch the bottom. i laid the carpet underneith for abit of sound insulation then re-carpeted it.

That's why it was quiet and lacking punch then... (??)

I found a fair guide on the web here (http://www.hifihacks.com/?page_id=53) which talks you through making a fibreglass enclosure to the correct shape. Done properly it should work pretty well I'd imagine (just hope you don't get a puncture lol)

you need to ensure it is strong i.e. no rust. fibeglass the whole thing very thickely, lay down some sound deadening matt, whack down some carpet over that and then fibreglass onto the carpet again. and you need to seal the well to the sub face panel. provding done right it can sound really good, just make sure there is enough air and it is tightly sealed :D

You'll need to make sure the airspace available is sufficient for the sub you intend to use. And as Philly mentioned put down some sound deadening and don't be stingy as you will loose a lot of sound through the well.

Does there need to be sound deadening inside the box also?

Wouldn't do any harm. Do whatever you can to make the sound come upwards, rather than down through the car. Brown Bread sound deadening was the stuff I used. Cuts your fingers to shreds though, that's unless you burn yourself first with the hot air gun..........memories.............

P.S. cheers for the tip mattlol

No problem... glad I can help. :D

I think I'll be carrying a few cans of that around as with my side skirts on the car will be too low to get a jack under.

I'd say definately go down the road of a removable sub box in your wheel well.... that way if your going on a long journey you can pop a spare in the boot.

You can also work out the volume and build the sub sitting proud of a false floor with the correct volume for the box.

One idea would be to either make or buy a spare wheel bracket and mount it in your boot and actually make a feature of the spare.

yep just what i was thinking. although it does help providing you have got nice alloys to make a feature in the first place lol

Would be a good idea to weld a hub to a bracket and use a locking wheel nut and some regular wheel nuts to secure it on. ;)
