View Full Version : 12v impact wrenches- Any good?
As above.
Sposed to undo wheel nuts etc, but do they?
Anyone used/got one?
Do they undo anything more than a bonnet hinge bolt? Lol

This clarke one sposed to do 170Nm torque, which should be enough to undo most bolts/nuts imo.

from past experience, JCB make very good diesel powered vehicles, but their licenced out tools are not exactly going to put dewalt out of business.
Let me ask you, do you need one or want one?
overtightening wheel nuts is actually very dangerous, it stretches the bolts & can crack the rims and when you can't get a wheel off on the side of the road, it is infuriating.
Always tighten wheels by hand.
ive often wanted one but then again having to keep the fecking thing charged etc is baf. a ?20 2ft breaker bar is far better, plus you can adjust road rage people with it lol
and agree'd JCB tools are pooooooo,
You probably won't remember this story

A friend who works in the trade suggested that the possibly wheels came off because the wheel bolts were being over tightened. This stretched the bolts, they became weakened and seeing as the ambulance is driven fairly hard, theres a lot of pressure on them!

LOL, that thing is 12v tho ;) plugged onto car batt etc, not rechargeable.
mowgli-I guess i dont need one tbh,Lol, i dont really see it over tightening wheel bolts tho, most other 12v tools i've bought are ****e, i was just wondering what they were like.
Guess its time for a new breaker bar then,Lol.
ad i had a woolworths one which was ace but it got nicked when pepe went missing
i have just bought the jcb one from ebay of that idealdeal guy and i give up two thumbs up :thumb: :thumb:
lol cheap and pisses wheels bolts off with ease
The missus bought me a wollies one, it's useful for whipping wheels off in a hurry, doesn't get much use though. I hadn't thought about using it on anything else to be honest, maybe it'll comeout of the boot more often.
I have a JCB angle grinder, seems OK, cuts through nova bodywork easilylol

the lads at our place (and our snap-on dealer) recommend an 18v drill, but i prefer my air gun!

12v is a bit weedy IMO.
You really want this sort of thing for rapidly undoing big suspension mountings & subframes etc which makes dropping engines doable in an hour.. so I think you want an 18v jobbie for tie bar bolts, beam mounts that type of thing...
Hummn, I've got a 1/2" drive adapter for my SDS, I wonder what that would do to a strut top! lol
Dont have the cash for 16/18v cordless jobbie, looks like 12v it is,Lol.
