View Full Version : Nasty noise

Right this is driving me nuts. At around 6 -6500 rpm I'm getting a nasty clattery noise from out of my twin 40's that I had put down to valve bounce. However the engine will carry on revving up & off the scale. The noise comes in for just a short burst and then disappears. It occurs in all gears but most noticeably when dropping down from 4th to 3rd and then accelerating hard. It doesn't do it when revving at rest. I'm sure its in the engine and not anything outside.
Anyone got any bright ideas (Ste)???:)

yeah

somming vibrating in engine, but at only a cetain freq... it will come in harmonics, so the first resonance will be at a certain rev, then 2x that rev will have another resonance... and so on... tighten everything up, and get someone to listen when it does it to find source

or make that thing heavier also changes its harmonic

I`ve heard it and it definately mechanical noise, not a loose shield or nething. I thought it had a slight effect on the acceleration while it was happening, so the valve bounce thing sounded plausible.
