Depends on a variety of factors - insurance, budget, style of car you want etc... tbh if you want something small and cheap, yet relatively quick then get a 205 (just don't crash it) or maybe a Golf. If performance isn't a priority, think Polo.

The car was immaculate but had a rusty headlight? :p

No no no stay way from 205's...horid cars/Vans,they have more electic fualts then the melenium was ment to create..

LMAO, not many things WOULD stand up to a Transit hitting them. Thats why i drive one, its safer lol

Id get a Vento, but ive said this before and was ignored, so ill not bother listing the reasons again lol

You want something older but cheaper to run than a Nova? Most older cars I can think of are either more fun to drive, but this is reflected in the price (think decent condition MK1 Golf, decent condition 205 GTis - the only worthwhile 205s, mk2 Escorts). Anything else older than a Nova that is cheaper is bound to be some crap like an Allego. Im not sure if there is a cheaper car to run through college than a Nova! Its not old enough to be a bona fide cult classic, yet its not new enough to command big prices. Most parts are available in Motor factors, scrappers, here or ebay (apart from 5 door window regulators.....grrr) and generally have low values. Older cars like escorts are getting dear to buy bits for (panels, trim etc) do appaling fuel economy and dont usually handle as well as a Nova on ?150 suspension unless big money is chucked at them.

i would go for a mk4 escort bonus/popular 3 door, red, blue, black, silver show cage, full recaros out or rs turbo, lower it about 60/70mm on rs series 2 alloys, even a 1.6rs engine woudlnt go a miss, all easily done aswell and cheap!!!:thumb:

I'd hate to have my EX riding around with me, even if it was in an 'mint' Escrote!

XE... not ex :p

a tidy mk1 or mk2 fiesta would be a good bomb proof cheap solution.

or get a VX :)

if you can find a nice mk1 fiesta, go for it. or another nova. cheap as chips to mod and always look good with rims and a suspension tweak.

i like the mk1 golf idea, stu still want the cage bud ;)
fords dont really do anything for me unless it was a 100e mmmmmm
cheap to run isnt a massive thing more, cheaper to buy and insure/classic insurance would be nice as my old 1600 bug only cost me 400 a year :D

i dont think ford is the way to go there slow unless you get a cossy blar blar blar, if you put a 1.2 fiesta and a 1.2 nova in a race who would win, the nova, i think if you can find a nice one get a nova 1.5 td there not all that slow and they do 60+mpg. get some seats and springs off here and there you go.

or you could get a old school mini there old and wouldnt cost you much to run, but there going up in price from what people are saying

i like the mk1 golf idea,

My brother picked his mk1 gti up for ?1000.
But.... I remember seeing a 1.3 not so long ago for cheap money.
Would be nice and easy to fit a gti body kit/alloys etc.

As for the engine upgrades there's plenty of options.
G40 would fit nicely from a polo coupe or just find a rotten GTI and nick the engine out of that.... you can even go as extreme as fitting an audi TT engine but that requires some major work.

Nova should qualify for classic insurance... 10 yrs out of production.

Ive got a Nova TD, fantastic power output tbh esp compared with small petrol engined Novas. Mines lowered & I put Sr seats in it to drive it home. LOL

And if anyone wants a G40 engine Ive just got off the phone from someone who's son just rolled a G40. Its for sale as a reshell project.

well although i hate fords with a passion, i have been offered what im told is a very very clean mk3 with one owner from new and at silly cheap money, so going to see it tomorrow

i was looking at golfs and cabs are quite reasonable this time of year so if i dont get this escort think getting trader this week might be a good idea.

i wouldnt have a mini again although i recently neally bght my old mini back
only it wasnt comming back with the xe engine or subframe so i gave it a miss as that was the only bit of the car that excited me
