have many conversions of this type been carried out? does anyone make the exhaust manifold for these? just out of interest really!! has any one got any more pictures of any?

ha ha just had a look in the features bit. um i think that would be a wicked conversion i see you have to move the oil filter for the fannymold. was just wondering what would have to be done to the fueling ecu etc...

aftermarket ecu is the better optin rather than the iffy "tweek" courtenay do (and charge a mint for)

there is tons and tons of info in the technical forum... you just need to be persistant with the search....

Oh if your only doing it on the cheap to have a dump valve then dont bother :p

Take a look in the projets bit for some pics aswell Ben :thumb:

Courtenay will sell you a manifold for ?250. Thats the easiest option.

no i wouldnt want it just for a dump valve ive got a mini turbo aswell, and that hasnt got a dump valve on i think they sound a bit common to be honest with you. id rather hear the chatter of a waste gate. its just out of interest so i know it can be done for future refrence.
cheers ben

If you don't want the noise of a VTA DV, get a recirculating one. Cheaper than an external wastegate, less power-sapping than an internal wastegate, and a lot easier to stick on than both.

Wastegates are silent in operation, the noise you're thinking of is actually called compressor surge - pressurised air hitting against the turbo fan blades when the throttle is closed. Very bad news for turbos! Might sound cool, but severely shortens the life of the turbine.

All I think when I hear compressor surge is "thats going to be expensive in about <1,000 miles" lmfao

There's an E16SE Turbo build here (http://forums.roybacer.net/index.php?autocom=blogs&code=read_blog&id=3&st=0)

or instead of building a turbo why not an N/A engine with similar power, I would imagine cheaper and not chavvy (imo), however a 160hp 1.6 8v vs a 160hp 1.6 8v turbo the turbo would win because it is a turbo and turbo's are faster.

I was always told it was called turbo spline chatter! as you say due to the air contacting the blades..

Guess I was informed wrongly :thumb:

thought rally cars had wastegate chatter? my mates cossie never made the noise until he fitted external wastegate.

compressor chop.
Mine used to do it when you back quickly but not when the throttle is closed gently. Some cars just wont do it. One lad I know sold his S1 Escort RS because my Nova had better chatter than his. He bought an R5 that did it (T v vat)
I personally think it depends on the turbo etc. I'm not so sure mine was compressor chop or whatever people call it. It had a tappety, metallic sound on mine ie penny valve snapping shut. (wastegate).

it depends on the turbo spec, the ducting routes, mapping all sorts really....
rally cars tend to hav eBOV's which "sound" like some sort of chatter...

i hear im probly rong but the fiesta turbo had a differnt ecu than the escort thats why the fiesta got the "chatter noise" my mini does "chatter" u gotta admit it sounds cool

Rally cars also have anti lag.

...which is another thing that makes a noise and sounds "cool" whilst it wrecks the turbo lol

My Celica suffered a bit from compressor surge a bit on the std DV, swapped for the bit of Forge VTA bling and it stopped. Did sound quite metallicy.

Woot, it keeps the turbine spinning nice and fast

Wouldnt all them joins make that a bit of a rough flow and restrictive down to the turbo?

Think they are probably ground and polished after each section is welded on.

Maybe but i was under the impresion that it's best to have bends in any exhaust, well lets put it this was some people spend loads getting systems made by hand without the indentations left by pipe bending machines,so if your taking the same into acount for the manifold then sharp 45*50* degree steps is not what you would want,no??
