HI, i have got a 1.2carb nova that i am now doing up for when i am 17. I hope to put a full GSI kit on and have it all shiny black. i will also be getting rid of the rusty bits and welding plates where needed. The bottom passenger door is just starting to bubble so will fix that too! It is quite a solid wee shell. Never been welded before. Its done 90k though. Still not that much. Will probably end up getting a sr engine put in then a gsi. This is what it looks like just now! Please leave comments and tips. Thanks

this will be getting stored in a garage for the most of 3 years. however the garage is quite damp! My nova sx was not that rotten when i bought it 2 years ago but with it sitting there for 2 years, the rust got worse. It was alot worse than when i bought it! Is there any good way to stop it rusting and keep it mint?? I would hate to see such a good wee nova go to waste! thanks

greg1.4
01-12-06, 09:22 AM
yes i am going to strip the front end and put a new slam/front panel in. Also might take the engine out and seam weld and spray it all nice shiny black! There isnt any point seam welding it just for the 1.2 but i would want it done if the gsi engine is getting dropped in. Also makes it stronger.

i havnt really done anything to this for a while but it has been driven by my sister for a while and needs a bit of work. I am going to get new plugs and leads for it. Also a K&N filter and new oil/filter. I have been told that the timing is needing adjusted? i dont know what that is? is it a big job? can you do it yourself? I also noticed the rear wheel bearings are away as it makes a terrible droning noise, so i bought new bearings today. Also when i move the steering whell quickly left to right it makes a loud horrible banging noise. What could this be?

greg1.4
21-12-06, 08:30 PM
starting stripping it down this weekend and then after xmas she will be getting welded etc. A full gsi kit on it with 3 spoke wheels and all colour coded! i though i would show a few pics just before it gets stripped. let me know what you think please.

got some work done to my project today. I have took the front bumper, grill, headlights and wings off and found some RUST! its no actually that bad, i need a new front panel. i could probs get away with just plating it up but want to do it right. I might aswell do it because the price of a front panel is not that expensive. I also removed side/bump strips along the doors and back quarter etc. I also tried to put 185/60/14 tyres on with new wheels but they dont fit on the back as it is too low so i will need to get my arches rolled. Will get some pics up of the progress soon.

Mike.
24-12-06, 03:29 PM
looks like a very good base car that mate, looks really nice in black

greg1.4
24-12-06, 03:34 PM
yeah its a clean wee nova. it is very clean and shiny after washing and polishing it. it came up really well actually. it has a few rust bubbles that will be getting rubbed down and also the back arches are starting to flake so they will be getting rubbed down and primed etc. It will end up with a nice shiny black paint job aswell. Should look really good when done. (hopefully)lol

greg1.4
24-12-06, 04:50 PM
Can you buy a arch rolling kit/tool? how much are they roughly to buy? also i have pulled my bump strips/trim off the nova and left with gluey horrible stuff underneath. I tried heating it up with a heat gun and is pretty had to pick it off. any other suggestions? cheers

Greg

NOV4_SPORT
24-12-06, 06:43 PM
its best to get the arch rolled profeshinally mate, but as for the gluey stuff, i found petrol is the best for it, put a fair amount on a soft clean cloth and dab it onto the glue, so that it soakes it up, this will loosen the glue, just keep wetting the glue with petrol and take your time to to damage the paintwork.

greg1.4

here is a few more pics. the gsi bumper, spoiler and skirts (when i get them) will all be getting painted black the same as the car. I am not sure what wheels to put on it but the sr 3 spoke wheels are going on it just now. I would like white 5 spoke wheels or multisopkes for when it goes on the road. possibly speedlines, i will see what money is like later on. te gsi clocks might be going in but will probably end up having the digi dash out my old nova in it.

greg1.4
27-12-06, 12:31 PM
I dont think its bad at all! I think its quite solid at the front end compared to my other 2 novas. The crossmember is soild, its only the front panel, the slam panel and the bit round the lights where it is rotten. A whole new front end is on its way, so just wait and see what she turns out like. It looks alot worse in he pics. I am sure a few people on here will agree with me that its not that bad.

greg1.4

thanks guys.lol.
i didnt think the rust was bad. Anyway i started taking the front panel and slam panel off today. Nearly finished,a few more hours and she will be ready for the new front end to get welded on. I will put a few more pics of it up with no front end on etc.

Got this today! What is the best thing to paint/coat the inner wings etc to stop them rusting. ihave grinded them all down and i was going to hammerite them or put underseal them. Whats best?
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o95/Greg_Mcknight/1210.jpg

NOV4_SPORT
28-12-06, 11:53 PM
first coat them in zinc enriched primer, then seam sealer, and a few coats of paint, thats all there is to it really.

NOV4_SPORT
28-12-06, 11:55 PM
also pump in wax oil into all the crevises like the hollow section in the front cross member under the radiator.

greg1.4
29-12-06, 01:06 PM
ok, thanks. will try that.

greg1.4
31-12-06, 05:35 PM
not done anything to the nova lately but i will be starting to put the complete front panel on next weekend. Is it ok to take the radiator out and leave it out for 2 weeks or should it keep it in all the time? It wont be started with no radiator in it, she will just be sitting still in a dry garage. Also is there any chance of it starting to rust with in a few weeks of welding it up?

NOV4_SPORT
31-12-06, 11:49 PM
its ok to leave the car with the radiator off, just dont start it, cause it will probebly over heat, also when re fitting it be carefull to bleed the system, to ensure there is no air in the system, when you have welded it up, let the welds cool, and give them a spray of primer, this will keep the rust at bay, until you do it properly.

greg1.4
05-01-07, 07:16 PM
well eventually got my front panel today. I got a crossmember with it. I am not bothered as i was going to weld a new one in anyway. Just need to get the old man to get into the garage and start welding.lol.

greg1.4
06-01-07, 05:06 PM
done a wee bit to the nova today. i took the radiator out and all the pipes, and done more cutting and grinding to get the old front panel off. I am considering taking the engine out now as it will probably be a pain to weld the crossmember in etc. I also could do with welding the seam along the chassis legs. It would be good if the engine was out then i could convert it to a 1400sr and paint the engine bay.lol
What do you guys think? I want to have it minted so its probably a good idea. Will insurance be expensive when i am 17 to have a 1300/1400 sr conversion. I will be putting the insurance through my dad. Any idea how much it will cost roughly?

novalovingned
06-01-07, 05:21 PM
as said on scottishnovas its a nice little project mate, as for the insurance through ur dads name, first car, mods etc etc..... i would have thought about the ?800-?1000 mark tpft,
do u have any pics of the inside of the boot, battery tray etc

looks clean enough on the out side tho :thumb:

greg1.4
06-01-07, 06:44 PM
the engine is coming out tommorow and it will be getting a seam welded bay. Also it will all get nicely painted black. I will get more pictures of the inside of arches/boot and battery tray ect soon. Will update my progress tommorow sometime.

i would like a set of white multispoke wheels for it or those astra gsi wheels. if i can get cesaro's i will get them. Anyway i am not looking for wheels just now as that will be one of the last things i am doing. need to get her welded first.lol

greg1.4
07-01-07, 07:50 PM
i have a to-do list! this is a few things i have though of that i would like to do before summer next year.
weld front panel on
full re-spray in shiny black,
Digi dash fitted,
GSI interior,
GSI kit fitted and colour coded,
my spax shockers/60mm springs on the front,
anti roll bar fitted,
basebox fitted,
gsi steering wheel fitted,
new handbrake cable etc,
new ball joints and track rod ends,
new wheel bearings,

The 1.2 engine will be getting kept in it for just now as it has done loads of miles and doesnt have much life left i dont think. It needs a new headgasket but i am just going to run it til it dies. I will source a 1300/1400 sr engine and have that spare. I am hoping to have a fast road cam and a set of twin 40's. Cant wait til the front end is all welded. After that i can get on with loads of other things.

hehe well, it should be a very good project to finish off to be honest!! good luck with it all!

greg1.4
11-01-07, 06:10 PM
well here is a small update. The 1.2 engine is half way out, only sitting in by two engine mounts and the drive shafts.lol.
I have bought a 1300 8v SR Nova that will be getting stripped. I have decided the engine is coming out of that and going in the black project car. I have no idea what i am going to do with the SR shell yet though. It is going to sit in my garage untill i need it or have a good plan. I wanted to build it into a rally car but it has a sunroof.:(
The SR interior will also be going in the black nova. Will take pics over the weekend.

Greg

greg1.4
11-01-07, 06:32 PM
i know that the SR engine will fit straight into the 1.2 carbed nova but what do i do with the gears/gear linkage as the engine was only a 4 speed. The SR is a 5 speed. I also heard that you have to wire up a different coil or something what do you do with the coil? What wires need changed/put in?? also do i not need the choke cable? If someone could give me as much info as possible it will be much appreciated.

Greg

NOV4_SPORT
11-01-07, 07:55 PM
best thing to do is have both cars side by side if possible, and swop the buits from the sr into the 1.2 mate, its pretty straight forward, just use the 5 speed box, but the 4 speed will be faster take off, but loose some top speed. i will pm you latter about our deal, got to go out now mate.

greg1.4
13-01-07, 09:14 PM
done a fair bit of work to the nova today. I have stripped the front end/wiring loom more and the engine and box is now out. I have bought a donor car (nova 1300 sr).
The engine and gearbox out the sr will be going in with a set of sport 40's and a fast road cam. The interior out the sr is going in the project car and also the g-max struts and 60mm springs for the front. Then the sr shell is getting welded up and painted and a 1600 gte engine dropped in and make it a gte look alike. Thats the plan anyway. The main thing is to get the black mk2 finished first though!lol

This is what she last looked like at the weekend. Well i am getting there now. Just need someone handy with a welder. I have got bassicly everything collected up to finish this project. A nice set of gsi skirts, G-Max superport gas struts, 65mm springs all round, weber carb hopefully if deal goes well, digi dash and a nice set of sr retro cool seats! The 1300 sr engine is out the sr (well needs lifted out but that will take 2 mins) and then clean it up and re-build her. I have got a 1.2 head for it going on which will increase compression so in theory should make it go a wee bit quicker. Is this true? I was told it would!:D

it sounds like its going to be a nice tidy nova when its finished, looks like you have plenty of room to work in as well, always a bonus in scotland lol (what with the amazing weather)

greg1.4
17-01-07, 11:00 PM
yes have lots of room. i have a garage that can store 4 novas with plenty of room spare and a garage across the road i am allowed to use any time with space for 3 novas with a pit which is handy. The weather down here is a joke. we have had rain and wind constant for 2 weeks now. Today we have had snow/sleet all day. Hopefully get lots of nice fresh snow to go and paly in the nova tommorow and have a wee skive from school!

well thats both engines out both cars and ready to be converted. The sr engine is getting cleaned/parts painted over the weekend and hopefully next weekend i can put the sr engine in. i am going to give it a small re-build so what things should i do? the engine makes a quite rattling/chapping noise but seems to go away after warmed up and driven for a while. what could this be? i will be putting new headgasket kit/rocker cover gasket/sump gasket/inlet and outlet manifold gaskets, new oil, coolant, air filter and oil filter, ht leads, spark plugs and distributor. anything else to bare in mind when doing it? i want a good reliable engine!lol.

well thats the sr engine re-build started. I have got a re-furbed alternator and starter and a new alternator belt. Need to get the head skimmed, ported and polished, valve stem oil seals, oil pump, head gasket kit, 4 branch manifold, fast road cam and a weber 32 carb. i sorted all the wires out for the conversion today and its really straight forward so wont take long to get it in after the engine is cleaned up and had a small re-build. starting to feel as though i am getting somewhere!lol

i have decided to go mk2 gsi style. It will look better i think. done even more work to my project this afternoon. I have cleaned and started grinding the underseal off the engine bay and stripped it even more ready for the re-spray. I also took the brake calipers off, the struts/springs, discs and the tie rods. I am taking that horrible metal gaurd off that goes behind the brake discs because i think it looks terrible. Should i put new track rod ends, bottom ball joints and bushes on? what things should i replace?? How much would it be for new bushes and ball joints etc?

i have a faulty starter on the 1.3 engine and the old 1.2 engine has a brand new starter so i have swapped them. Is it ok to do this? It seems to fit fine but havnt turned it over as the engine is not in the car???

i am gutted. I cant put the 1300 sr engine in for when i am 17 years old because insurance companies wont let you insure cars with engine conversions. i will have to stick to the 1200 engine for a while then convert it or sell the 1200 merit and buy a proper sr. I am not keen on insuring it ilegally.

i have been busy today! i cut out the whole front panel and crossmember and grinded all the seams back and they will be getting plated and seam welded as you can see from the pics they are quite rotten. The new front panel should be in by the end of next week. Then i will need to save my pennies to re-spray the engine bay/front end.

i have a few questions that i hope you guys can help me with.

I want to clean the sr engine and get the bottom of the engine black/silver and the head/rocker cover in silver. What paint should i use and where do i get it?

When i am putting new spark plugs and leads on, how do i know what order they go in? if i buy brand new leads will they tell me what plug to put them onto or can you tell by the length of the leads?

I would like to paint inside the arches but want underseal stuff on them and to protect my new splash guards. What paint/underseal should i put on? where do i get that? Also do i brush it on or spray it with a spray gun or will i need a special underseal spray gun?

Thanks

Greg

I have been really busy again today, i have stripped the sr engine down and took all the old gaskets off and i have washed the gearbox, rubbed it down with sandpaper and wire brush then primed it. It looks miles better even with the primer on it. I am getting paint tommorow for the block and the head/rocker cover. The block is going black and the top end of the engine is going nice shiny silver. All the manifold are in the middle of getting ready for painting. After the exhaust manifold is done it will be getting heat wrapped.

Quite chuffed with what i have done today!

i have a wee list of parts to get in the net few days.

black hammerite paint,
rocker cover gasket,
sump gasket,
exhaust outlet gasket (broke in 3 pieces when i took manifold off),

Should get the engine finished by the end of the week.
The guy that is coming to weld my nova is going to be coming up later on in the week so should be finished next weekend. Was hoping to have it done by wednesday but cant help it. The front end should be welded and painted and put back together and engine in running in 2/3 weeks. Starting to really feel as though i am getting somewhere with this project. Will take pics of the engine etc tommorow.

the guy that is welding my nova has been really busy lately so he hasnt been to weld it together. I cant complain though as i know it will get done but his job is more important than my nova just now.lol. It will be welded before the end of the week.

Anyway, i have put the new front panel in place and built all the panels back on etc to see if it is going to line up and it does! Its all ready to be tacked on with the mig! cant wait! I need to go and buy some black spray cans? I am going to prime the whole front panel and engine bay with rattle cans.

I am also in the middle of fitting the new gaskets etc and cant wait til the engine is put in. Its all coming along nicely! I have a small problem though. I am putting the sr twin manifold on with the twin down pipe but where the middle section of exhaust joins onto the manifld is rotten away so i need to weld it togethor or buy a new exhaust system. Might just go and buy a janspeed/ashley stainless steel exhaust with a 4 branch when i have a bit more money! Pics will be uploaded later.

thats my nova front panel welded on. Just need to weld a plate on where it joins to the new panel from the inner wing and 2 small plates welded on where the metal bumper brackets go. Then the front end will be complete.

But, its the inner wings/seams on the engine bay that are worrieng. Whats the best way to weld them? Do we run a seam weld along then plate it?

thanks!

right, the next job is to paint and rust protect the front end/inner wings/engine bay. I have completly scraped all the old silicone sealer stuff off the splash guards/inner wings today and rubbed them all down. New splash guards will be getting welded in and the seams will be getting stitch welded and a few plates welded here and there.

After the welding is done i want to paint the whole lot black. I would like to paint the inner wings/front panel/engine bay with black rattle cans from the local motor factors but need something to protect the rust coming back. I will put seam sealer over all the welds/plates. Is there a clear paint or something i can put over my nice shiny black paint to stop the rust coming through in the future? Cheers

Greg

yes thats what i am going for. Obviosley the bumpers will go black when the whole car gets re-sprayed. Need to buy a new set of copper brake pipes and braided hose to replace the rubber pipe that goes onto the calipers etc.

Then i will be getting the engine bay finished and engine back in. I am aiming to have it back off the axle stands and engine in and running soon. Then i can start worrying about paint and better brakes, interior and finishing touches. I am going to spend my money on getting it legal and through a mot first then if i have a bit of spare cash i will go on and buy extras!

Going to replace the brake pipes this weekend then get the engine fired in. My aim is to get the engine in and running by my school holidays in 2 or 3 weeks. anyone have a wee metal radiator clip (that goes onto the front panel and holds the rubber bush on the radiator in place)?? I have lost one and could do with one. Any chance anyone could be so kind and post a metal clip to me please? pm me for my adress etc.

Also anone have 2 spare j-clips that hold the bolts in the wing in place. They go between the wing and the inner wing. Sure you will know what i am on about. They clip onto the inner wing i can put a threaded bolt onto it. Thanks. Greg

weill i have a shopping list and hopefully after i have got all that stuff i should have the project nearly finished.

I need new brake pipes/braided hoses
bottom ball jonts,
track rod ends,
new bilstein/spax struts,
wheel bearings (all four)
polybushes (replace nearly all the bushes on the car),
plastic primer for my bumpers etc,
K&N filter,
ashley exhaust system,
bonnet pins (still tnot sure if i should get them)
new window washer motor thing (that goes in the plastic bottle)

Anyone know how to get the best finish on my gsi bumpers?
I was just going to rub them all down and get them all nice and smooth then prime them and paint them with 2k black paint to watch the car. SHould i use lacquer on top of that or something? I will be doing my mirrors, gsi spoiler, gsi skirts and grill all at the same time.

Anyone also know what this wire is? it comes out of the loom near the window wiper motor. It is a very short wire and has a red/brown and brown wire i think. Is this for the window skoosher motor/pump thing?

the 2k black is a proper made up paint from a bodyshop. Not sure if its a solid colour or not. I asked for 200 vauxhall black paint and thats what they gave me.

could be the ignition live to the clocks? :S

greg1.4
01-04-07, 04:05 PM
i have just been out and had it running again and the battery is really flat and wont even hold a charge. I need to put jump leads onto it.

Could the batery be the problem?

I thought it was a dodgy earth so i put a eart going from the negative battery teriminal onto the bulkhead and a thick earth wire from the end of the gearbox onto the chassis leg.

When i was out about an hour ago i noticed when i pulled the choke out (its a automatic choke on the engine, so would not to anything) i could see the choke warning light on but very dim?? that then made me think it was maybe just such a flat battery but surely when she is idling everything should work. The heaters etc work when i turn them on and it does not want to drop the engine revs atall???

Greg

Adam
01-04-07, 04:09 PM
Aye, proper flat battery would cause dash not to light up.
But with the engine running the dash should be fully lit(its running off the alternator when the engines running)

Check the ignition lives to the dash, and the brown earths.

greg1.4
01-04-07, 04:11 PM
also it still isnt running on all 4 cylinders. She has got a hell of alot better but still misssifiring. I have not got a airbox on, low fuel and the vacum pipe from the manifold to the brake servo is not connected yet. would this cause the problem?

I also wondered if it was with me swapping the plugs and leads. I have got 1.2 carb'd plugs and leads on it and a 1.2 coil.

Whats the firing order? does anyone have any diagrams or pics that will show me excactly where what lead goes where. Thanks ina advance.

Greg

greg1.4
01-04-07, 04:13 PM
Check the ignition lives to the dash, and the brown earths.
how do i check this?

i will go and make sure my alternator is actually working.ha ha

Adam
01-04-07, 04:16 PM
Do you have a multi meter?

Firing order is 1-3-4-2
No1 cylinder is at the timing belt end.
And No1 lead goes on the top right terminal on the dizzy cap, then 3,4,2 in a anticlockwise direction on the cap.

If you have the brake servo pipe disconnected then the engine will be drawing a big amount of air in through the hole(which the carb wont be metering for) That may be causing a misfire(very lean mix)

greg1.4
01-04-07, 04:32 PM
yes i have a multi-meter.

will make sure i have all my plugs etc on and my airbox and my pipe from the servo to the manifold and she if she runs better. The reason i have not got that pipe on as i was really struggling geting it onto the servo.lol

will go and give it a small bash with a rubber mallet!:D

greg1.4
01-04-07, 06:22 PM
all my plugs and leads were in the correct place etc. Put my vaucum pipes back on etc and my airbox and she is still missfiring

When she is running it makes a quick ticking noise (think its the tappets)??

Anyother ideas on what coukd be wrong? the only thing i done was replace the manifold gaskets and the rocker cover gasket. Anything i could have done wrong?

Ahh, just had a thought. I have not got a earth wire going from the alternator bracket/bolt onto the manifold bolt. Could this cause any problems?

My dad says it might need a good run and the hydraulic tappets might be seized. Is this possible?

Adam
01-04-07, 06:30 PM
Ticking can be a sign of a blowing exhaust manifold gasket.

Fit the alternator earth wire to the bracket/inlet.

greg1.4
02-04-07, 10:48 PM
eventually got it running properly. Still a ticking noise but she is sounding healthy again. Stil think it could be better but am sure a good run and a oil change and plugs and leads will sort it.

A few more pics-
cant wait to get samco's on and a strut brace and k&n. will look really good i think.

Greg

Dave.
02-04-07, 10:51 PM
the tapping might be your tappets, is it like a high tapping sound on tickover and low revs? if so it could be your tappets, mine need doing aswell lol
us two are the same lol

greg1.4
02-04-07, 10:55 PM
i knwo the ticking noise is the tappets.lol. am not affected about that as i will run her till she blows up and then fire another engine in it. have a choice of 2 1.2 engines, 1.4 engine and 2 2.0 engines.

i could do with finding out what the problem with the lights it though?

greg1.4
03-04-07, 12:24 PM

nah not really. de-badged it tonight (for re-spray, put bolts on the inside of my wings (i forgot, doh!), put my vin plate things on the slan panel and tried to get my bonnet to close properly but no success. ended up having to snap the grill trying to get the grill off so i could break back into the engine bay.lol
got in and tried to fix it for about an hour (its all out of line after new panel welded on), so i am just taking the catch etc off and having bonnet pins.

apart from that i have not been doing anything. will get pics up when K&N, strut brace and gsi spoiler etc fitted.

well i was bored today so i did a bit of faffing about.
i rubbed down the glue rubbish that goes behind the bump strips and got all that smooth. then sprayed it with primer to stop it rusting til i get a full re-spray.
i also fitted my gsi bumper (properly) and its all prepared to be sprayed.
then tonight i went to buy a car trailer (and did) but while i was there i spotted some MINTED nova gsi wheels. i have got a centre cap missing but am sure i will have one kickin around or one of my mates have one.

i also started fitting my gsi spoiler but kind of made an ****. the window washer jet is too big so spoiler does not sit on.

a few pics of my spoiler fitted. i am very chuffed with this. it is slightly out at the drivers side but it is just me being picky. i think you would not notice it once its all black and unless you were looking very closely. cant wait to get it all black. so close now!:D

you are welcome to see it once its finished or just about finished.

did some more mucking about tonight.

i fitted my 60mm lowering springs. (still sits a bit too high) need 80mm i think...

i also tried some red and blue insulating tape on my bumper and i decided blue was the coolest. this was just to see what it looked like and got ripped off again as the tape was roughly put on and too thick.

should see some good progress soon as i have found out that the passenger door is not so handy. the bottom of it if falling apart when you bang the door, so i chipped away the tin worm and tried to smooth it off and was going to fill it but it will end up falling out, or rust coming back and give me bother in 2 years time. I am going to weld a new door skin on or make one and smooth it off before the car gets re-spray.

yes, i like that gsi quite a bit..

yes i have thought about smoothing the boot, door locks..but i want it to be pretty standard.

and for the wheels, they are staying on until i am aged to drive and hopefully by then i will have some speedlines.

got a few more pics, got everything ready for re-spray now except the spoiler and the skirts. i am painting the skirts grey to match the door handles and grab handle on the tailgate, but i need to know a colour thats nearly identical the original grey...? please help?
anthracite or rover hurricane grey i have been hearing but could do with some more opinions.

fit gsi servo/mc,
wheel bearings,
fit track rod ends (dad got gas to heat them up)
need a new digi dash,
gsi steering wheel fitted,
K&N /ITG/PX filter,
strut brace,
gsi decals,
freshen up the rear beam and hubs etc,
gsi interior and thats it really.

will try and get pics of progress over the weekend..

this has been kind of left sitting in the corner of my garage lately due to a new project. its now sitting with no head on the engine, coil, dizzy etc as i stole it for my other nova that has twin 40's..

but on the good side, i am putting a 1200 head on her, 4 branch, SR inlet manifold and twin choke carb which should make it quicker without hurting the insurance too much.

greg1.4
23-06-07, 10:12 PM
not good! put my new headgasket on today, put my 1200 head with twin choke SR carb and cant get her to go.. not happy, but will have a good look at it tommorow and put some jump leads onto her as i have been turning it over that much its went flat..

10-07-07, 06:16 PM
well had no updates on this nova for a while due to another nove project.. anyway had some spare grey undercoat so i sprayed half the nova today and then ran out of undercoat..
after my holiday (away for a week) i should crack on with this and hopefully get some nice shiny paint and bits for it.. hope to have it finished this summer.

not done much to this nova apart from rob bits off it for my latest project..

i took the fuel pump, dizzy, dizzy cap, leads and coil off it for my other nova so i eventually built it back together the other day and got her going (not very well but she does go)!

i hope to get a move on with it once i get payed and get my civic out of the garage. plans are to get it sprayed, re-build engine/new sr engine, full ashley system, gsi/sri interior, digi dash, get some gas struts and a set of 80mm/90mm springs.

i might even just chop a set of old springs i have lying around for a laugh!lol

will get some progress pics and the current state she is in today hopefully.

now that my other nova project is finished i have started working on this again. today i put a fuel pump, petrol, new plugs and leads and a battery and she fired up. it went really well too! so i was chuffed.

i was about an hour ago and i had been looking at really clean nova engine bays so i decided to take my engine back out and de-grease the engine and i am going to paint it again and get a kent cam and samco's etc this time.. i want to make it look very tidy.
pics will be on later.
once i get payed i will get it sprayed, get the engine re-built and painted, strut brace, K&N and some samcos or similar.

right i think its time for an update.

i have stripped the suspension/brakes etc off it and going to paint it all up to make it look better. i could also do with getting some better struts too.

i am really struggling with replacing the track rod ends though. think i will need to get my dad to come and do them with some gas/heat.

also going to try and get some paint for the car this week or atleast get it all primed, plastic primed and ready to be sprayed.

i will also be looking for some stuff in the next few weeks.

digi dash,
red bumper tape,
GSi decals,
GSI/SRI interior,
K&N filter,
janspeed/ashley full exhaust system,
koni or spax suspension

and i have to fit my

side skirts,
gsi spoiler,
strut brace,
gsi grille badge,
lights etc after re-spray,
gsi steering wheel,
gsi 3 spoke alloys
and give the inside one hell of a good clean!!

that should see the car about finished and ready for the road.

i will get some pics later and hopefully later in the week on some progress.

make sure you manage to get yourself an SR lump in there - youll be more satisfied in the long run.

yep it was dark when i took the pics outside and i only had 2 lights on in the garage.. was heading out so didnt have them all on (one light switch is not at the door if you get what i mean)..

i think it will be a sr engine that goes in it.. might have to re-build my 1300 sr and shove that in.

i will keep you posted though.

greg1.4
13-08-07, 10:03 PM
no not really as its not running anyway and i want to de-grease the new head and re-paint the engine and box again or just try and get it original but really clean.. also going to put new bolts and jubilee clips on etc and a few engine mods.

only take 2 hours to get an engine out on my own with a few tools. ha ha.

greg1.4
15-08-07, 08:31 AM
well last night i started by washing the engine bay, cleaned my washer bottle and expansion tank.. always help if they are clean. i also de-greased and cleaned up my new gsi servo and master cyliner (thanks rallyman) think thats his name on her anyway.lol

i also de-greased my drive shafts so they are ready to be panted and the coil has been rubbed down and i got rid of the horrible red paint and putting it black again.

i also took the choke cable out and extra cables and wires i didnt need. i am also going to try and hide the wiring loom as much as i possible can.

going to start on the track rod ends and painting the steering arms and bottom arms etc etc to freshen them up a little, might also start on the engine by stripping it.

no pics as yet.
