View Full Version : Nova strut brace query, post your pics
I'm looking for a different strut brace for a tb'd xe in a nova.
The one I'm using sits over the top of the air filter and just touches.
I have seen ones before that run nearer the cam cover.
Has anyone got any pics or links to where I can find one please :thumb:
Fearless one sits over the fuel rail IIRC
Sorry no pics
Have a look at martin kelsons feature, i know he ha one but he runs carbs
My front strut brace is like this and i've never had any clearance issues.

and not a grinder in sight lol
lol It wasnt grinding, it was trimming! i know you said that grinder was an import but it must of claimed a few fingers!
Dar- Is that just the OMP one ?
The filter on this car is huge ! but yours may work.
The Fearless one would also work fine
Thanks guys

That one above wont work as the filter sits tight to the bulkhead.
Nice bike tb's though ;)

Just fits without touchin the SFI box thanks to Drapers inport finger taking grinder!:thumb:
Cheers Savs, if it nearly touches a SFI box then it will crush the filter to bits on my car lol
Dar- Your useless LOL
Anyone got a Fearless one kicking about ? or even a OMP one I can try ?

Sparco alloy ones. You can reverse the brace bar so it is forward facing.

There are chiefly two types of strut brace made for novas (not inc specialist ones for XEs etc)
the 1st is the 'along the bulkhead' one which was designed for SRs to go behind the dustbin lid or behind the twin carbs on the Sport.
the 2nd is for GTEs/GSI, SRi that goes over the fuel rail.
Both of these tend to clash with the SFI box or the fuel rail on XEs so specialist ones or adaptions have to be made.
As ur running without a sfi box and fuelrail you should find the gte/gsi style fits perfectly.
check out 'strutbracer', a seller on ebay.
Cheers Loggy
Craig- take one guess what strut brace the car has on it already !
I'll have a look into that as it sure doesn't look like it can be reversed but if yout hink so then maybe we have sorted the problem.
Thanks all
This is a 1.3SR strutbrace, lookin at the TB'd xe's looks like they'd sit below it!

i have just fitted this.....
http://i16.ebayimg.com/06/i/08/e0/94/11_1.JPG
and my bonnet wont shut? Its an omp one thats for the 16v/turbo conversion. It just touches the plastic turbo cover when fitted
That looks like a sparco alloy brace with an OMP sticker on it! The OMP one goes straight across....
Shouldn't touch the bonnet though......
My OMP one doesn't go straight across.
It has an adjuster on it tho whereas that one doesn't.

Dar yours is and sparco one mate.
I would like to know if there is some one out there that has one form MPS as i have thought about getting one of them before..

It's fine when the fillter is on,though it dose slightly touch the oil cap.
I do need to find out thats a better fit, might try that spaco one Dar has.

Big Chap, thats the Sparco one isn't it ?
Which is what I have, tried it reversed but I thought it looked ****e.
No doubt it will look alright when bolted in.
Yours looks slightly modified and some bufty has clearly been at it

Bufty?
its the sparco end plates, i made a brace from 1.5" aluminium to fit the two fixing points. will look sh!t when i remove the SFI box for the bodies!
the car used to run bodies with a previous owner but was put back to standard when sold on, as a result the brace no longer fitted because of the SFI box
Sorry to dig this up, but I've just fitted my Sparco strutbrace and the bonnet won't shut, the brace is just slightly to high up, which is strange.

thats the mps one, the wall thickness is thin though! i think it will flex alot!

I have to admit the car has no bonnet at the mo so I have no idea if we'll have the same problem.
tbh it does fit the normal way round, its just VERY close to the ITG filter.
Time will tell :thumb:
