Fuel pump + Tank leakage Question...

Hiya. I have a fuel leak from my Nova at the rear of the car, but its coming from a small metal thing thats in the fuel line between the pump, and the fuel tank. Its looks a BIT like a fuel regulator, but it cant be as they are on the fuel rail on the XE engines. Can i just remove this and take a line straight from the tank to the pump, or does it need to be there?

Your right its a regulator but not sure of removing it all together!

ah right. So why do they have one by the fuel pump? does the one on the fuel rail do the job on its own? ive been told by someone else that its the fuel filter??

AH HA!! Just looked through my haynes manual and apparantly its a "Diaphram damper". Do i need to keep this on for the XE engine?
