Right all you TD'ers out there, what sort of MPG can you get on a good run and around town etc, just an average really is what I'm after. Work have forced my hand and so im looking to get a TD as I want as low travelling cost as possible.
Can I have MPG and say how many miles on a tenner too.
Thanks

Ive only been driving mine for 10 days or so.
However. Ive got to fill up at lunch time & the last tenner has just done 125 miles.
15 quid previously saw over 190 miles.
I think potentially it will consume fuel if driven hard, I'm a bit of a boost freak & the power delivery is still a novelty at the moment so I keep giving it some where I can when shes warmed up.
I'll be interested to see how it goes on a long run on the motorway. It needs a good service, oil chnge etc & a CV boot is hanging off. So I'm just pottering about but all being well I'll sort these bits before the Cheltenham meet & then scoot off up the motorway & see what MPG she does on a run.
Motorway cruising is a pleasure though, lots of punch in 5th from 80mph+.

I know I'll see better MPG than that. Like I say Ive been rather heavy with the old right foot. It goes damn well if you let it, the beauty of it is that its so effortless. I had a duel (note not a race) with an XR2i. I could hear him screaming his engine but I was just flicking the revs round to 4200rpm with ease & barely making any noise or smoke & wasted him up a long steepish dual carriageway. Quite amusing for a Nova with std ride height & 13" steels with hubcaps. LOL

typical, there isnt any on ebay at the mo
Think a TD is the way forward though in terms of being economical, I belive you can see well over 50mpg if you take it steady too.
?10 of veg oil will see a full tank ;)
also i dislike the "how far can ?10 get you" as fuel costs vary quite a lot ove rthe country andits not like the good old days of 70p a litre so comparing it to then is bad too lol.
with all older diesels, they love fresh oil, they love a light right foot and they will give you lots of mpg back if treated nicely.

I saw crime watch the other night.
They were revisiting a crime from 10 years ago.
There was a quick shot of a petrol station forecourt.... 44p per litre for unleaded. lol
I think there will be a wave of modified TD's in the near future.

think i may convert my 1tlr to a td if its possible. I dont want to part with my 1lt as its absolutely mint.
it makes sense for me now to have a diesel as I will be doing a 500 mile per week minimum
or fit a valver in there and you can get 40 to the gallon, which is equiv to about 50mpg in a diesel due to the cost difference ;)
its funny, my vx is more fuel friendly than your 1.0 lol
I <3 my 25mpg Celica lol
Stu, is that right for an XE, round 40mpg? I'm planning to put one in the schaloon eventually, but use it as an everyday car - so no major abuse. If I can get decent mpg off it, that will be an incentive for me to get my butt in gear and sort it (and btw yes I drive like a grandad lol)

Yup.
Easily get 35/40mpg if you drive like a grandad,Lol.
As its nice and efficient fuel injection.
Hendrix-Its quite a bit of work to put a TD into a petrol shell, different engine mounts, exhaust etc etc.
if my mk4 1.8 astra can get high 30's mpg, then a nova with less weight and a little more torque available should be able to see 40Mpg very easily.
and thats with not "too" mincey driving... ie i drive the astra on a commuter run that used to herald 26mpg from my omega lmao

I gets 40mpg out of mine, easily. And dont need to drive it at 25mph to achieve that. But then i can burn a ?10 worth in 30 miles.

Also bear in mind that an XE has to do fook all work to get a nova moving, its pretty much only idling most of the time when driving it gently :thumb:

2.0 Ecotec would be better on juice still.
Hardly the essence of this thread though. I spose a knackered XE will smoke like a TD though.
