Could anyone please tell me if a 1.6gte engine will drop straight into a 1.0 shell, are all the mounts in the same places etc? im planning on doing the r1 carb conversion and a mate of mine has a mint sell for sale with a gte engine.
also are there any good websites to buy new GM parts from other than ringing vauxhall? cheers for any help

I think the mounts are different on the 1.0's but not sure.. also i woulnt waste your money with car converison..

get some twin 40s or throttle bodies...

Yeah, you need the drivers engine mount from a OHC engine 8v nova.

www.autovaux.co.uk
sell parts etc, dont think there GM tho, only Gm dealers will sell gm parts.

autovaux most definately do sell GM parts at less than GM prices... but they can get you no-gm in too if your feeling pikey.

bike carbs are "ok" but for the cost and BAF of getting bike carbs running on the 1.6 8v you might aswell have spent less and fitted weber T40's and have 95% the same results...

About ?800 from bogg bro's, for a xe.
Including mapping etc.

Quite a bit for probably 15/20bhp gain.

and jsut how do you map carbs :p

on a 2.0 XE (and possibly the 1.6 16V) bike carbs are a really good option, but on the 1.6 8v i personally think they are a waste

cheers for some good advice, putting twin webbers on is going to cost at least ?400 quid plus extras. Bike carbs are no more than?100-150, manifolds are about ?160 then filter ?100 plus choke and throttle cable for ?10 they sound much better than webbers! thats why im doing it.

meh your call :p ..... shouldnt need a choke cable..

dont forget the dizzy setup from a 1.4 carbed engine as the ecu will ghey about with piss poor ign otherwise
