Has anybody successfully supercharged a 1.6gte?
there seem to be quite a few cooper superchargers on ebay for not much money. It must be easier than a turbo...

hi mate!! you would need to uprate pistons, bottom end head gasket etc etc, would be costly because how much stress a supercharger puts on a engine, if it was a standard gte engine you would blow it to bits

swings and roundabouts, but here is the definative "reason"..... you see a fair few turbocharged cars on the market, but not that many supercharged ones... manufacturers take the "best"/cheapest/easiest route nearly every time.

also the supercharged mini isnt that great to drive as it feels laggy and isnt that rev happy imho.. so id hazzard a guess that it wont convert to a 1.68v engine that well either..

ok, so having read loads of posts about turboing, I reckon that turboing is a pretty dodgy route too. I am not frightened of sourcing lo-comp pistons and sorting out oil feeds, but why is everyone dead against using bits off the isuzu 1.7td?

for a start the TD exhaust manifold wont line up at all, and if it does then it wont bolt on ;). also TD spec turbos are totally different to petrol spec ones (brake specific air consumption)....

tubroing isnt "dodgy" its jsut been done in dodgy "bodge" (imho) ways by some of the more well known tuning compnaies that like to charge ?3K..

doing it the way Nova-Neil did his was the best way jsut he didnt quite get the big number reults that most are after but it did last a fair while..
