Question is: to power 2x12" 800watt subs, am i better off getting a 2 channel amp or wat?

I dont understand how to do all this bridging stuff from a mono amp.

i dont know a whole lot.

Ive currently got a alpine cda-9831r (50wx4) infinity 6x9's (3 way 300watt) 2x12" kenwood subs which im using temporarily (800watts each).

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks, Luke:thumb:

To power 2 subs in bridged mode, you'll need a 4 channel amp.

As bridged mode means one sub uses both channels.
So one sub=2channels.

I ran 2x12" Xplod subs off one 4ch amp.
You'll also have to make sure your headunit has 2 sets of phono outputs, if not you'll have to buy a phono splitter.

as above.

splitters are easier and less wires to mess around with.

What model are the subs? Need to look up some specs on them before recommending an amp :thumb:

Generally avoid bridging if you can, tends to produce lower power than having a single dedicated 2 channel amp. Having said that, I currently have one single JL sub running off my Alpine amp at 300WRMS; but adding another sub presents a load where both subs still get the optimum 300WRMS power.

As for the sub model.........i dont remember what they are, ive had them a fair while, ill have a look for you!

P.S. will a 3000watt 2 channel amp be too powerful for the subs and damage them, or will it not affect them, and the subs just use the power they need or what?

States that they are 700watts each here, 350wrms.

i know that they are'nt the best of subs, but they didnt sound too bad when they were in my uncles Ibiza being run off an xplod 1600.

I did get them free in the twin box too, and will be using them until i get a car that is safe enough to upgrade my ICE, since the nova has been tampered with a few times now.

Kenwood don't have online manuals for their speakers, handy  so you're probably best off with a 2channel amp. Look for one that outputs around 300W at 4Ohms per channel.

Alpine MRP F450 will bridge to 200Wx2 @ 4Ohms RMS, 350W PMPO - could be well suited to the Kenwood subs as I wouldn't assume Kenwood's quoted ratings are entirely accurate

How about an amp that was like this :

Maximum output power

2 x 750 Watts @ 2 ohms
2 x 500 Watts @ 4 ohms
1 x 1000 Watts @ 4 ohms (bridged)

Wat u think?

Look at the RMS (continual) power figures rather than the PMPO (peak max) power figures. I'd guess the RMS on 500W PMPO @ 4Ohms would be about 2-250W, if the figures are all accurate thats a little underpowered for the subs but should run them fine.
