Does that include insurance? If not then whats your budget for insurance.

What kind of car are you looking for? Hatch, saloon, coup?? Size? F/R/4WD? N/A, turbo? Age of car?

Need to be a little bit more specific :thumb:

Good S13 with change for a few mods... S14 perhaps. Celica ST185 or ST182, maybe a G6 ST. Starlet, but probably not a turbo for that money.

Not sure what the prices of 306 Rallye's and GTi6's are like at the moment, you might be able to get an early one for that money, or there's always the 106 GTi/Rallye choice.

Most of those I'd forget if you were under 21 and didn't have a massive insurance budget though lol

Didnt know the gsi's were that cheap.

45 mins isnt bad... how many miles is that?
I'm at the gf's parents this weekend in Redhill normally takes us just over an hour.

its all in context.... off the mark and round some twisties a vectra wont be "that great" but for a confy motorway eater its perfect.. and excellend midrange accleration (which is far more fun than being able to razz to 60 and no more lol)

You'd pick up a very tidy Vento 2.0 GL and have change for a nice set of wheels and a drop, which IMO is all they need. Fully loaded, German reliability, much cheaper insurance than a hatch and theyre not just MK3's with a boot, like the MK2 Jettas were.

You could even pick up a VR6 for 2K with a bit of hunting, but not sure what your insurance underwriters would say to that lol

Theres a reason insurance is high for someone aged 17

To stop them driving cars they'll crash and get killed in.

24-11-06, 02:08 AM
Get a Starlet SR and pay your own insurance mate!

Stuart
24-11-06, 08:07 AM
yes it costs a lot in the short term but its well worth it in the long run...

my first years insurance was ?950, then dropped to ?650, ?500, ?350, ?250 then less than ?200 (but i changed cars to an omega and started on the higer rate and dropped again)

Matt2107
24-11-06, 09:17 AM
Agreed... bite the bullet and get your own insurance... or remain a boy for the rest of your life.

Jack
24-11-06, 10:11 AM
Yep. I first paid ?450 for a 0.9l Fiat Uno; then ?600 for a 1.2 Nova in my second year, which went down to ?260 after about three years, once I'd gotten 4 years NCB. With 6 years NCB and 6 points I currently pay about ?650 on the GT4!

Insurance companies are wise to fronting anyway, they'll be very suspicious if they see a young lad as a second driver. Can you prove you're not the main driver of the car, especially if the "primary" driver has another car? A mate of mine was refused a claim as the insurance company refused to accept he wasn't the primary driver.

Do what most of us had to do, get stuck with a shed for a year or two and work your way up.

Matt2107

Or do what my brother has done... 3 months of driving and he's paying ?2800 a year for his 1.9 Mk1 GTI golf.

Adam
24-11-06, 02:47 PM
My first year insurance was ?1150, on a 1.2i lol

I now pay ?450, all mods delcared, including modded/converted engine.
Aged 19, 2yrs ncb..

So next June(when i have 3yrs ncb, 3yrs driving, and aged 20) i might see what other cars i can insure, had a few looks at vectras myself, make a nice cruiser.
Hmm,Lol.

Lee
24-11-06, 03:13 PM
i payed 1200 on a 1.2 corsa lol

I now throw a wobbly if i have to pay over 300 for anything!

sri_boi
25-11-06, 09:48 AM

sri_boi
25-11-06, 10:35 AM
i was thinking about it, a lil unsure about the power though, and fuel bill would kill me, but insuring it wouldnt be a problem i dont think. :)

Jack
25-11-06, 11:02 AM
Fuel bill isn't that bad on an XE. But anyway, who cares about fuel, as you'll need to save money for my repairs when you crash into me and your insurance refuse to pay out as you're not properly insured :thumb:
