While rebuilding my engine I thought about making up a baffled sump, has anyone any info or have tried this before?

What engine is it because you might be able to use one of another engine!!!

google for guy croft. he has a site full of info for trap door sumps etc and also google for trap door sumps and read up on yank sites etc for how to design a suitable setup for your sump and so on.

there is also info for making the sump bigger to reduce surge, and keep the oil cooler at source.

Theres a bit in the grpA build manual too, if its for the 1600 8v.

If its a 1400 or 1600 small block, use the sump and pickup pipe from the Corsa B 16v engine, will need a different type of Gasket and don't forget to replace the O' ring on the pickup pipe...

For a standard sump its really pretty good, 4x baffles in there (both horizontal and vertical, not gated though!) not quite as good as the custom ones guy croft makes, but bet you can pick up a sump, gasket and pickup pipe for less than ?50!

C14SE's come with a baffled sump, funnily enough it's baffled in the same way as the group 'A' manual suggests.

You want to get the aluminium one from a 1600 16v Corsa, used them on tarmac rallycars with no surge issues.

Tom, where can I get one of these ally 16v sumps from?

I've only got the one, for ME.

I will make a call and see if any more are available.

Or get it off of a 16v GTE cORSA.
