I thought generally you turret to ensure enough space for coilovers so you dont need to bash the inner arches with a hammer?

No, you replace the rear turrets so that the rear coilovers don't become an 'internal feature' :p

I personally havent see the point in them. Dont get me wrong they look the mutts nuts and do serve a purpose of some kind at the end of the day.

BUT if its just the odd trackday and road use then it isnt essential. Its not like your going rallying in the forestry stages or anything. Chris's reply had the answer imo

I take it thats from personal experience to make such a bold claim, if not it was wasted. If the shell is in good condition and the original turrets have been done right then no issues will arise.

Also beating the inner arches with a hammer isnt always needed, if it is then your talking a couple of mm not inches. with the welding done to the rear turrest a quick spray would be needed anyway so a few flakes of cracked paint inside wont be an issue as its the same area.

Well my car has bounced off kerbs at 120mph+, driven on 2 wheels and generally driven within an inch of its life most of the time its running and I expect the suspension to fail before my rear coilovers become an 'internal feature'.

In that case I apologise and stand corrected, but the impression I was under from this forum is that unless the car was stripped out and never going to carry rear passengers then the rear turrets and beam needed strengthening.

The impression you were under that we say to strengthen the rear turrets etc are correct, but we dont state that you have to cut the whole lot and and weld in different turrets and start again. lol lol lol

so i'l just weld round the turrets as they are now, just like an engine bay do an inch miss one?
