Does anyone know if there is enough meat on a 13SB block from a 1989 SR to have it overbored to 1400cc? It appears I need to take the bores out by 2.3mm, is that safe as I will be 'using' on track.
Anyone know where best to get decent pistons from
I dont want to use a 1.4 block as its for my Sport and I want to keep a 1.3 block as original.
Cheers
Rich

Also I will hopefully be fitting a big valve head with the Irmscher 108 or Kent AST2 cam, will the pistons need to be dished/recessed for clearance?
Can they be bought already done or will they need machining?

erm if your that worrried about keeping the 1.3 bottom end for say resale.. then jsut get a 1400 bottom end and use that , keep the 1300 stored oiled etc so you can swap back for sale

It is possible to get a 1300 to 1400 yeah.
Keith Robinson's 1300 engine was bored to 1400 iirc.

Making a sport engine 1400cc means its no longer a sport engine tho...

I had the block bored on my sport to take 1200 pistons, worked a treat the only problem i had was that i had a big valve head and at full lift the valves touched the pistons but some pockets sorted that one. It was reliable too i used it for hillclims and sprints as well as on the road and it never showed any signs of a problem.

1200 block & pistons with 1300 rods & crank IIRC
CR will be high though. Will need twin 40's & high octane fuel

Its the same basic block though so externally it would look standard.
I am trying to keep the Sport original looking but with a few choice mods like the period Irmscher bits, roll cage, RFX's, straight cutbox etc...

1200 block is not tall enough, its a much shorter stroke than 1300. Plus if I'm changing block I may aswell use a 1400 block.

i know you want to keep it orginal... BUT for the sake of either making the block non sport and NEVER being able to return it to sport spec, or swapping the block out so taht you keep the sport spec engine for resale/poncing about in concourse stuff your jsut making life a bit ghey....

unless you wnat to *ahem* keep it insured as a 1.3 with a 1.3 block..... anyway keiths 1400 "only" made about 120-125bhp... and a properly tuned 1.3 should do the same ;)

Thought the crank gives the stroke.
If the 1200 block is too short, bore a 1300 to suit 1200 pistons.

I am pretty sure that you can take the block out. Try http://www.allittmotorsport.co.uk/ Chris will be able to tell you if you can take the block out and be able to sell you some pistons at a decent price.
