When I got the car home the first thing was to give it a full service, then waxoyl'd everything paying particular attention to known trouble spots. Fitted my Momo steering wheel that has been in every Nova I've owned. Then got myself the Bilstein kit to bring it closer to the ground and aid handling, then the wheels and immobiliser were fitted, followed closely by a visit to my favorite tyre fitter for some tracking re-alignment as it was 10 degrees out!!!
Sourced a rear bumper and tail panel from the breakers yard, painted black and fitted.
Persuaded a friend to sell me the SR front bumper, grill and front anti-roll bar off his SORN'd car, he also provided the GTE seats and door cards. Bumper and grill recieved the black paint and were fitted. Anti-roll bar fitted with new poly bushes. That brings us to present day.
Next is a pair of GTE/GSI side skirts, which, Colin if you're reading this thread the cheque for these is being posted on Monday, Cheers fella,. They too will be painted black and fitted.
That only leaves 2 things (for the time being):
1 - rear anti-roll bar - if anyone can help, please get in touch.
2 - does the car need to go lower??????????????????????????? help!!!!

My garage where I spend all my time and where my P1 sleeps.

My first Saloon had GTE wheels and I liked the look of it, but sold the last of my wheels in the summer before I decided to buy this car otherwise I would have kept them and saved myself a few quid. But I love the look of the black wheels and have 16v brakes to go on when I get the calipers reconditioned so that would have ruled out the GTE wheels anyway.

Took me an hour to persuade him to sell me this grill...........worth it???? I THINK SO.

Cheers,

Shaun.

what paint did you use for the bumpers and grill?

Shaun_O'Donnell
19-11-06, 04:01 PM
Just cheapo satin black aerosol that you find in back street car shops. This was on top of a decent plastic primer though.

Dave.

it looks ok you know, you couldve bought my gte wheels when i get my cesaros

If it flakes off it's not too big a deal to repair I suppose.

I thought there was a reason about mentioning the GTE wheels!!!! ha ha. I'm happy with the Team Dynamics.

Couldn't not fit the mk2 rear. The original was cracked and managed to get this one for ?8!!!!!

That's the bad side of the car too with the ding in the front wing and the dented door. These will be repaired in the New Year when it stops raining!!

Just bolts on in the usual place and is held on further by expanding fixings along the front panel.

Decided to fit a my stereo as driving around without one was doing my head in. All the subs, amps, head unit and wiring came from my first install that's lay dorment for over 5 years. The 6x9's are the only new things. This sub box has sat under my desk at work for years and was using it as a footrest!!!!
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/Shaun_ODonnell/STA60035a.jpg
Here's my subs. Rockford Fosgate punch 12"
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/Shaun_ODonnell/STA60039a.jpg
Here's 2 of my 3 amps that I had, the crossfire one running just treble to the 6x9's on the shelf and the Rockford amp powers the 2 subs bridged and 1 ohm for less resistance.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/Shaun_ODonnell/STA60038a.jpg
My 6x9's, which due to their depth are sitting in 16mm MDF spacers.
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/Shaun_ODonnell/STA60037a.jpg
Top view. Cutting the holes for these in the shelf was one noisy job!!
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i203/Shaun_ODonnell/STA60036a.jpg
Finally finished and set up.

Bit of carpet and you'd never know it was a former footstool!!! ha ha

Got the carpet from Halfords. Autoleads stuff and it's brilliant stuff. I used to get rolls of it from my nearest car HI-FI place and there stuff is really thin compared to this. It was ?23 for 2m X 1.2m though.

really like this nova...what other plans is there??

Shaun_O'Donnell
10-12-06, 07:10 PM
Not a huge amount. It is now sporting 2.0 16v brakes aswell. Will be fitting GTE/GSI side skirts soon and a rear anti-roll bar. Other than that and the minor body repairs it's unlikely to change much. Have been thinking about fitting an SR engine, but would need a full donor car and an understanding wife. She's like, "What do you need a big engine for, you've got the Subaru?" And I've just had the carb re-built so I'll run the 1.0 litre for a wee while more.

Just put rain-X on all the glass and took it out to see what it's like (cause it's always raining is Scotland), highly recomended!!!!!

Very nice indeed. Gotta love how you can fit twin subs into a saloon boot and still have loads of room for shopping lol :thumb:

Have a butchers on the VIN plate for the colour code, it'll probably be listed in the colour chart (link in my sig).

I was considering having black bumpers on mine - judging by yours I think I'll get on with that. :D

Fitting the side skirts and rear anti-roll bar I got from Colin.

What a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st - Painted the skirts black only for me to forget I'd left them outside to dry and it started raining!

2nd - These skirts don't fit saloon's too good. They're not long enough, but f**k it, they're going on and I'll sort something out later since I have to paint them again.

3rd - Nice cold damp day to be doing this. Tiger seal is taking an age to go off.

4th - Abandon ship it's about to pi$$ down. Retreat into the garage and re-fit the skirts.

5th - Cut hand with saw whilst making timber props to hold the skirts onto the car.

6th - Hands are killing me, I'm soaking wet, lips are chapped beyond belief.

Only good thing - Anti roll bar fitted without any problem and I replace the brake fluid whilst wheels were off.

Some pics of how I've left it in the garage and my P1's having to suffer the weather tonight on the driveway.......

Been there already mate, with the stripped out Nova, Roll cage etc etc. But that was my weekend car and this is my every day car. The comforts of carpet and a stereo make a difference.

That's me now finished up at work until the 8th. Finally a chance to take a good side shot of the car with the new skirts on. Also first shot of the car with the new brakes aswell.

Was thinking of making a GSI hatch spoiler fit. Anyone know if this has been tried on a saloon?

Jack
21-12-06, 12:24 PM
I was going to do that to my old saloon, but the GSi spoiler won't fit as the saloon rear window comes up too high :(

Have you fettled the sideskirts a bit, as they seem to fit quite well in those last few pictures?

Shaun_O'Donnell
21-12-06, 12:30 PM
I think with a bit of cutting in and patience with Tiger seal, it would fit ok, but like you say there's not a lot of metal between the window seal and the start of the roof.......hmmmmmmm

The only fettling was re-shaping the rear section to sit flush against the quarter panel and they are obviously a lot different to the saloon. Just used a hot air-gun and to get the shape into the plastic and cooled immediately with cold, freezing in fact, water. Then stuck them on as per the previous pics.

Only main issue is the gap, still to solve.......

my dad had the nova dart spoiler fitted to his old 2 door -- i think it was like a rubber one the same style as a MK2 Escort RS

Is that one that goes on the boot lid?

My first saloon had a 405 Mi16 spoiler on it, want to avoid a heavy spoiler as I had to compress the boot springs to hold the boot open, that resulted in them breaking. Would consider fabricating gas struts to fit. hmmmmmmm

Cheers very much. On the lookout for either a 1.3sr, 1.4sr, 1.6 GTE or 1.6GSI that's either failed an MOT or is going to fail an MOT that I can get cheap and take the engine, gearbox, loom, dash, fuel tank etc from. A GSI would be ideal as I love the mk2 black dash.
