Sorry but that looks terrible. In a crash the top bar where it is welded could easilt snap and spear you in the head, arm etc.

Gotta agree with Rick there, looks like it'll do more harm than good in a crash !! take it its a show cage ? Where does it fix to ?

That doesn't really look like an mps. Got mine in the summer there and there was no welds on the main hoop.

It looks ok but it's dangerous! In crash you might bump your head on those bars. My opinion get those off....

I wouldnt trust an Ally cage as far as i could throw it, let alone one welded in that place.

But what do we know, were all jerks? Arn't we?

I'd like the cage if i was a giant magpie but if you crash and your brain spills out because you whacked it on the cage or maybe the weld cracked above and speared your girlfriend in the boobies will you still call us Jerks?

Never seen one, but the fact is a steel weld will be as strong, if not more than the metal itself. That is NOT the case with aluminium though, and the fact that if you rolled over it would bend significantly, or as mentioned, possibly snap at the weld and spear you or your mrs.

End of the day, its your barnet, but IMO if you want a shiney cage, get a steel one chromed.

should i ask mps bout this?

Matt2107
07-12-06, 10:57 AM
Wouldnt be much point as it'll be advertised as for off road and show use only.

NickWalliams

You shoud say something to them as Ive never seen a roll cage welded like that before, maybe it was a reject or got damaged or something? or they had run out of decent lengths of tube.

The weld is the week point just like it is on a mountain bike frame even when made of steel. Hence why bike frames have butted tube so it is thicker at the welds.

Totally true mate,

i used to work for a for a cmpany name Weightlifter Bodies we made lorry trailers..

i made about 50 of them 25 ally 25 steel,, in 2 years of them been built 10 ally1s came back dude to the welds cracking when they had been shunted about(not to do with my welding as i was an aproved welderd not coded tho)

and 3 steel came back 1 had been ina crash and all the front and left side of the trailer had been bent/snapped but none of the welds have even moved , the other 2 came back due to a combination of shat welding on my behalf and cheep metal we was getting in at the time

Probs not gonna make no sence, but i'm just pointing out that i'd rather have a steel cage then a ally one Fact.
