Ste shell is fine with no welding, checked all over the other day. Aslong as the shell isnt rotten welding isnt exactly needed. Fair enough if you track the car then id suggest you weld it.

agreed. welding isnt "vital" but since the engine is out you may aswell...

only really important bit is the suspension and brakes. the rest of the car can take it (if in good enough nick)

no point wasting time and effort when the purpose that your using the car for dosent require certain things doing

See, Jamie, told you it can be done on the cheap ;)

Agreed, even mark watt's LET wasnt welded, and thats still about (a bit shoddy but about lol)

Although i personally would NEVER fit an XE without sorting the bay out first, it does help chassis stiffness for handling purposes as well you know, not just to stop the engine ripping off and buggering down the road on its own lol

Next time i get a nova in thats "nah doesnt need welding but has full apart in 4 months" i shall take lots of photos and post them up. Ive seen enough home conversions that just fall apart because they were lazy and took advice off a monkey. Only last week one ripped the engine mount off the chasis leg and that wasnt rotten.

All done in the same way you describe. But until people find out the hard way they wont really listen to be honest.

personally i wouldnt buid an xe nova without do any welding, the car wasnt designed to take as much torque from an xe, it'll rip the car apart or it will turn into a banana car and will crab down the road. seriously if you do a conversion its better to be safe than sorry!!!!! its your life mate!!!

I think my conversion will be just as cheap tbh ste. Most of my parts dont stand me at any money as Ive baught them on full cars/parts of sets etc and sold the rest of the bits on to pay for the bits ive kept etc.
Ive seen novas that have been welded and unwelded, it all boils down to how well you have done the conversion and how you drive, treat the car etc as to how long its gonna last. Obviously welded ones should last longer but non welded ones can be as good. all ofcourse imho!

i was planning to weld mine, but due to losing unit, and needing car shifting, threw engine, and finished it at home on the drive.

was going to do it oneday, but got shot of it now

I think welding the bay is like wearing a motorbike helmet in texas.

Not essential, but highlt recommended lol
