Hi, I need to change the head and rocker gasket on my 1400 carb SR, I alson want to do the timing belt, I phoned Vaux and they want about ?100 for the parts, I then phoned my motorfactors and it works out about 40 quid.

Just looked on the bay and there is both listed for a lot cheaper, ,my question is this, do any other models or engine sizes use the same parts, eg 1300 nova?

Much appreciated, Liam

1.2/1.3/1.4 have same rocker gasket.

Any headgasket for a 1.4 engine will be fine.
But a 1.2/1.3/1.6 won't.

Also, if you remove the inlet/exhaust manifolds you'll need new gaskets, so you'll need a 1.4sr inlet gasket.
All ohc exhaust gaskets are the same.

Search ebay more, i got a full 1400 headgasket set with headbolts for ?26, including delivery,Lol.

Thanks dude, you the man :thumb:

Is it advisable to change the water pump also, and anything else?

Give the pump sprocket a turn, make sure it turns freely, and try to "rock" it, see if theres any play in the shaft.

You might need renew the pump sealing ring, as you'll have to undo the pump to remove/loosen the cambelt. If the ring looks ok tho, you could re-use it.

Just hope its not leaking after you put everything back together,Lol.

LOL that's a nightmare when you put stuff back together and it leaks!

Depends if your engine has the auto tensioner setup, or the belt is just tensioned by the waterpump.

The first one is the later, auto tensioner belt.

The second one is the early type.

Hmm I'll have a gander, I assume if I get the full engine number it will be possible to tell the type. or do I just look for a tensioner you reckon?

Its an H reg, and with it being the 1st of the mk2's I would assume it to be the non tensioner type.... meh lol

H-reg will probably be the non tensioner model.

I'd say you may as well do the water pump while your down there.
If it leaks after you've put it all back together then you'll just have to take it all apart again lol

You can tell if its got the tensioner by whether the cam belt cover is flat topped or not.. (soI beleive)
i would do the pump if youve never changed it. They are cheap enough.

Correct on most engines, some had a flat cover and no tensioner, not many tho, only the ones around late '91, 1992/93 had tensioners.

My GSi is an early 'H' & that had a tensioner. Was going from that tbh.

Ahh right, my old 1400 astra engine out of a h-plate had a flat cambelt cover, and no tensioner, unless someone previously had removed it.
