If you were to buy one of the older nova's before tighter emmision Regs.

Would that mean you'd have a larger margin At Mot time if you have a very tuned engine in there?

Emissions tests go off which is older, car or engine mate.

Yeah but most Mot centres wont check and will just go off the age of the Car...
just wondering really, sourcing a nova for my project now... and love the Mk1 shape and the emisions Thing would be a big bonus come Mot Time..

IIRC the catalytic converter emissions test is from some point in 1993 onwards so you could probably blag most Novas through it, or play it safe with a J reg or earlier.

Neither of the tests are "easier" than the other - each version of the test (i.e. cat equipped test and non-cat equipped test) is designed for the approproate engine to be running properly emissions wise. Putting a cat on an engine in an old car which is run through the non-cat test would make it easier I suppose, but then you would be better off just removing the cat, having the power gain and getting the engine running nicely.
