View Full Version : NO spark XE nova conversion

I've recently finished installing a 20XE into my nova, but I cannot get it started...

i've got it to turn over, i've got fuel but no spark from the king lead.

i've tried 5 different coils and ign mods and two different ecus (both motronic 2.5)

i'm assuming the crank sensor works as the fuel relay clicks and the fuel pumps thru.

i've run a new ign live wire from the engine loom to the ign switch.

i've wired a temp ecu light, it stays on with ign, and flashes up code 31 - no rpm/crank signal...

any suggestions?

cheers

Ryan

what was the car originally

a 1.0 if so you cant use the live feed from the coil on the loom , you have to run a new one which remains 12v while cranking the engine

thanks,

but car was originally 1.2i, but replaced that wire with new one direct to ign switch, this wire seemed to drop in voltage when cranked...

so replaced it with perm live for the moment - still nothing :(

crank sensor itself is a wire feed,if you have accidently damaged it then it wont read a signal,as for the fuel it will pump regardless because everytime you crank the switch live powers the fuel circuit which in turn will click the relay. i had the same problem with my nova and that was down to a monged crank sensor. replace this but make sure you put the wire feed back to switch live not perm live. all the best chap.

earth strap from the gearbox to the chassis leg, make sure its tight.

From the gearbox to the chassis.
Its the main earth for the engine/box.

I've taken the sensor out and waved a bit of metal infront of it to check its working - and the relay clicks away no probs, althought the wiring does look a little fcuked/worn.

is the sensor the same on later dis pack xe's? if so i'll borrow my cav one and give that a go...

cheers

Yeah sensor is the same on both early and late and even the let's.

i didnt think there was an earth strap to the chassis, is the engine not earthed to the starter, then the battery and then to the chassis?

no, there is an earth strap from the gearbox to the chassis. i didnt know that until my dad told me thats why my nova wouldnt start.lol

Sorry to hyjack but I have this same problem, no spark all plugged in correct I think all earthed just won't run :s got fuel aswell, cheers and also have a tempary switched ignition feed as a permanent but will sort this when she runs.

Yeah the gearbox earth would be a good start lol

no earth strap means ecu probs gone bye bye !or sounds like crank sensor fault ??
