the water pump is the tensioner. crack off the 3 allen key bolts and itll move. if not hit it with something which wont damage it to free it off.

yea some do have seperate tensioners, such as the C16se GSI lump where as the E16se GSI lump doesnt. also the redtop has a tensioner.

to change the cambelt you will need to take the crank pulley off, try this way.

stick it in gear (2nd)
get someone else to stand on brakes whilst you get heffty breaker bar and crack off the bolt. lol works for me when im at home without a gun.

if the belt is fairly new, then i wouldnt worry about changing it, it should be fine just make sure you time and tension it up correctly. as for wrecking diff? i doubt it very much. got any pics of your motor?

Its probably seized in, sledge hammer time.

I dont see how you can remove the waterpump with the crank pulley still on, as that means you can't remove the rear timing belt cover, which the pump sits behind....

Or is there a big enough gap to remove it?

gaps big enough to remove it ...is it deffo the tensioner? yous saying i wackit and hope it moves ...theres like a lug on it that seems to be the "wacking point" lol

Well, if theres nothing else that the belt runs on, then the pump is the tensioner.
They have a habit of seizing into the block, and take some persuading to remove. Lol
