In the back of the Nova handbook (the oblong green and grey one) is a few different economies for differing models and speeds. If your car is running anywhere near as these after 13+ years, you got a good 'un!!

Thanks guys :)

I have a 1.2 carb nova, I was wondering if I would get better MPG with something like a 1.4injection engine ?

I guess I`m gonna hear stick in a XE Lump for performance etc but thats not what I want, Besides I have just restored and fitted a 2.0 zetec into a mk2 fiesta xr2 and sold on... Its MPG I need this time.

The G reg 1.2L nova was suppost to be for the misses to drive but she prefered to stay with the Ghia-x mondeo :( so now I have ended up with the nova

I just want it to be as cheap as chips to drive, however those damn 145 x 13" tyres MUST go! Oh needs to be lower too & to lose that damn van size steering wheel :) <- think I`m getting the nova bug

anyway, what do you guys suggest ?

Set the carb up right, and it will give as good economy as a 1.4. You have to factor in the cost of getting a new engine and your time putting it in the 1.2, plus the injection fuel tank and lines etc. The cost of that will not be recouped with the saving in fuel economy. Keep it carb, they aren't too bad as a town car.

1.4i would have better mpg than the 1.2 - if you could get a 5speed gearbox too that would help for motorway journeys. The 1.4SPi engine is only 60bhp though, so only 5 up on the 1.2 carb; but then it does have a bit more torque. MPi engine is 82bhp (or 84bhp, can't remember exact), dunno what the MPi is like for economy though.

But as said, the cost of finding and installing would probably offset the savings on fuel unless you could get the parts dirt cheap.

WTF, is that supposed to be 60mpg, on the 1.2 carb at 56mph,Lol
Can't see that myself, even on a new engine.

MPi engines are about the same economy wise as spi, i'd say mpi was a slightly more economical if anything.

I get a minimum of 35mpg on my 1.4i, and thats mostly town driving.
