Hi guys n dolls,

I need help fitting my brakes.

I have the following for the brake assembly part -

sliders + bolts
Calipers (ate)
Pads
256mm discs (not grooved).
and some spring clips.
All items are supposed to have come from an Astra GTE 16v.

However I'm not too sure how it all goes together and think I may have a combination of 2 fifferent sets of brakes!

I fitted the sliders 1st to the hubs but couldnt get the disc in place.
Do you need to dismantle the entire brake system to change the discs? eg unbolt the sliders? Seems like a hell of a faff!

Anyway - heres some pics -

Can someone tell me if I've assembled it right (obviously Haynes is no help here because theyre not nova brakes).

Also - how does the spring clip (providing its the right one) fit?

If anyone has some images of their brakes please post for reference.

There's also a series of codes on the calipers -
drivers (off) side -

KBA 60298
FN 52/24R

Passenger (near) side
CN977

FN 52/24L

Put disc on, place caliper with pads over & bolt on, looks OK from pics.

retaining spring can be tricky but it just snaps into the holes & runs along the edge of the pad.

Mines a Turbo caliper, pretty much the same .... you can see where the spring goes, as CG said it can be a bit tricky !!

Its covered in the Later Specification at the end of haynes manual, as the brakes are the same type as nova 1.2i/1.4i/1.6i later brakes, apart from 16v ones are larger.

Basically:-
Fit the Disc
Bolt the caliper carrier
Fit the outboard pad to the carrier
Fit the inboard pad to caliper(clips into place)
Fit caliper onto carrier and bolt it on(the slide bolts)

If the caliper wont sit over the disc the caliper piston needs pushing back slightly.

You probably know, but pump the pedal once your done or youll have no brake when you move it.

brake pipes arent connected yet.

I dont think I've got the right spring clips - can anyone provide a close up of the clips in relation to where they go on the outer pad?

My clips seem to be a bit short (but they will slot into the holes okay...)

The clips dont touch the outer pad.
They clip around the carrier to hold the caliper to the carrier.

Your clips look the correct ones.
