View Full Version : changing sun roof
how hard is to swap tilt an slide sunroof for a basic tilt only model ?
i looked in my haynes manual its the old blue that doesnt have spanner ratings for how hard the jobs are an its make removing the sunroof sound a mamouth job (there are over 2 pages on how to remove it .
surely its not that hard ?

should be easy once the head cloth has been removed
i have the headlining out on my SR and I want shot of the tilt/slide, the mechanisim is ****in massive :(
Was thinking of just fixing a piece of persepx in there, rivetting a plate in or welding it or maybe just a tilt as you say!
So i'm in the same boat mate lol
the tilt slide is much bigger than the standard tilt. Why do you want to swap it over?
I'd like to fit a tilt slide in my nova as opposed to the standard tilt. Looks better imo...
i want to swap as after fitting my rollcage the roof lining has started to tear so was going to remove the roof linig but the big tilt an mech looks crap
you could replace the roof lining with something a little more robust (vynal) or perhaps build a surround to encase the mechanism - eg a papier mache rigid type structure - most modern cars have a rigid fibreboard (complressed paper/wood chip) roof lining which is really solid. Anchor it to the existing mounting points by building the metal rods into it.
thats a lot of work to be honest i d rather have no roof liner an a tilt sunroof
plus stripped out looks the tits lol
Got a universal sunroof here, does look smaller than the standard tilt/slide one, corners have much more of a radius too.
