High idling problems

I own a 89 gte. A month after buying it I noticed that after a good caning, it revs out to 3000rpm on tickover, If I snap the throtle shut it returns to normal. I have checked that all the cables are lubed up and free . Please help!!!!! :(

Could be the return spring on the injection system, or the shaft that operates it could be sticky as it enters the system. have a look at it , if its all covered in shite it could be that.

Mine`s started doing the same. Try removing the idle control valve, give it a good clean and stick it back in. Other thing to check is the position and condition of the throttle position sensor, replace it if it looks iffy.
