Hiya! Can anyone tell me what options i have when it comes to changing the induction side of things with my XE lump?

I know i can go throttle bodies, but that seems quite expensive....

What about carbs? are they a good option? and what is needed to convert to that?

what sort of power figures will i be looking at if i change to either?

Cheers
Mike

can go bike carbs, works out hell of lot cheaper than bodies, borgg bros do conversion manifold for yamaha r1 carbs for around 300quid. better fuel economy than webbers too. look in this months total vauxhall mag, white corsa on cover

was told not quite as good as tbds but better than carbs, cold runnin in morn not a prob as get a manual choke too, if done carefully i.e carbs off ebay for 50quid with the right bits still on em etc and drill out jets and service carbs yaself can prob be done for little more than ?400. ive bin looking into this recently for mine!

hmmmmmm, sounds good! might have to go down that route then. What happens with ignition etc? ive seen that article in this months total vauxhall, and it made me think why dont people use twin carbs anymore. Used to have some on my mk1 escort, and they sounded the nuts!

ignition is either a MK2 cav 1.6

or megasquirt can do a ignition only ecu iirc - stuart knows alot about them

mk2 cavvy 1.6 ignition setup is needed or you can use megasquirt or megajolt setup too, both easily available off ebay or vaux spares. if using 2nd hand bike carbs then its well worth getting them overhauled/serviced. only drill the jets out if you need more fueling if running standard xe then leave jets well alone. also you will be needing either the r1 fuel pump or a facet redtop pump both run between 3-5 and will cost near to 75holes.

Bikes get worse MPG than cars anyway, so you cant use engine capacity as an example.
Changing the management system away from the Motronic should/could make some gains esp as you can ditch the AFM & get some nicer cams in there.
