I just need to air my anger at the morning Ive just had.

I wanted to tax my new Nova TD this morning as the Insurance certificate arrived today. Rushed to the post office with the MOT etc & as always our post office was packed to the fr doors & I also noticed they were out of V10 tax application forms. I legged it back to the car & ranted it to Highbridge post office where there is never a queue & they had V10 forms, but the post office counters were closed. No worries, I have the form(s) & raced back to town where the post office was now almost empty. Approach the geezer behind the counter & inform him I wish to tax my car.. 'you dont need the V10 mate' he said, oh why? I asked. You need the ref no from the renewal form or the V5. I dont have the V5 for it as I bought it without...

Turns out now Ive got to apply for the V5 (?19) & wait upto 6 weeeks for it to arrive. ALL I WANT TO DO IS TAX MY FECKING CAR & DRIVE TO WORK!!

I was so cheesed off I had to punch the wall outside the post office. So what is the V10 form for then?

CG:mad:

When i got my old car on the road i filled in a V10, and with mot/insurance got a tax disc there and then, unless they've changed the way they do it.
THis was Nov '04. Can't remember if they also needed the logbook tho.

Why did you buy it without the logbook? Its illegal sell a car without the logbook anyway...
Unless they said they were posting it on to you or something.

Youve always needed the logbook or the renewal in your name,

If you go to the Local DVLA office you can fill in the V62 there and then and tax it.

ive been refused tax before because the bit behide the counter couldnt read the date on teh mot certificate and told me i need another mot, even though i could read it quite clearly.

on the renewel form theres a long number somewhere for you to do it online!

i did mine online due to i could not find my insurance, filled it out, checked everything, (9pm) i had my tax disk 2 days later :)

We'll lookout for the hole in the post office wall lol

Had the same with Alex though when we went to tax her Polo - spent a while guiding her through the V10 form, then half hour or so queueing, only for the girl behind the counter (who apparently wanted my babies...) to tell us we don't need the V10!

You still use the V10's at the local office for some absurd reason, thought they would have same technology as the post office!

I can tax mine online as dont have specific cars insured, its a pain in the ****.

Hole system sucks!

I'm gonna try the post office where I picked up the V10 form in Highbridge, gotta be worth a try.

Funnily enough the people in Highbridge are nicer then the people in Bridgy. The woman that helped me send some stuff once was lovely. Go to the one in Bridgy, as Jack said to tax my car, she saw him, smiled, then saw me walking behind him, and was p!ssy with me the entire time...whilst looking at Jack?! Excellent customer services those Bridgwaterlions...lol

The moral of this seems to be.....If it's a woman on the counter, do it yourself, if it's a bloke, send the missis or gf, vice versa if your a girl yourselflol

I was just going to say that as the roads around hull are really bad, had to have my strut tops re-welded as a result of poor roads round here!!!
I gave my rents a lift not so long back and they were both like ooh i dont know why you made your car so low its really uncomfortable and bouncy, but they wont believe me its not cos the cars low its cos the roads are sh!te!!!!!

lol - the on line system is okay - but they sem to post the tax disc AFTER it expires which means that if you get pulled you can still get busted for not displaying a valid tax disc!

Mines up for renewal end of the month on my runaround - its like an offroad course round by me at the moment - rather than resurface the road the council come round with a road sweeper that rather than suck up the sh1te seems to blast tar and gravel at high speed onto the holes then some pleb hits it with a shovel.

prob is the speed it comes out seems to go everywhere but in the hole so youre left with a crater with high sided mounds and a road full or loose stones that chip your paintwork!

The guy who lives next door to me cant use his bike anymore because its not safe to ride it on the exit to our street.

Think a large petition has been submitted to the local council office...

As an aside from this, did anybody happen to see the BBC news last night? My lordy I've don't think I've ever seen the BBC used as a tool for government propaganda this badly!

They reported on a trial car taxation scheme where you pay-per-mile, with the charge depending on the type of road and time of usage. They measured how much this exec bloke racked up on his average daily commute to work. Muchos emphasis on "This road is only 5 pence per mile! And back roads can be as little as 2 pence per mile!"; little mention of the motorway he used cost 25 pence per mile, and that plans are afoot for the M25 to be in the region of >?1.30 per mile....

Anyway, result was that it cost the guy "only" ?6 to drive the 20 or however many miles it was to work and back home. Ok; but assuming he commutes every weekday of the year, thats ?1,560 a year; which the BBC failed to mention. They did touch on the fact he'd probably need to travel to meetings whilst at work, so extra mileage - but for some reason made this out to sound like a good thing? No mention of weekend or driving for personal/family reasons which would of course add to the cost.

?1560 to drive ~100 miles a week? 5200 miles a year? I'm all for taxing higher mileage drivers more than lower mileage drivers, but considering the "average" annual mileage is 12k, going by that example then Mr Joe Average will be paying ?3500+ per year road tax instead of ?175 (or ?100 for smaller engines).

The icing on the cake was the literally 5 seconds at the end of the report stating how he could use public transport - taxi and train - to get to work. But oh no, this cost him ?20 for that day he tried it. Erm, if he commuting daily how about anunal rail cards? Taxi or bus season tickets? So now because the government has a rather tasty cash cow plan for the motorist - again - they're telling us public transport is bad and we should all use our cars?

No mention of whether this would replace road tax - no doubt it'd be on top.

Clocking will be rife.

GPS tracking systems will be used - none of this trusting the public mallarky lol

It currently costs us ?50 to tax a 1.5 DCi Renault Clio for 12 months.
That's only ?4.17 per month. A bargain, i think you'll find.

I have a MOT'd & insured car on my drive with diesel in the tank.

Why cant I give the DVLA my money for TAX?

TAX by its namesake is a robbery of funds for an invisible service, cant I just give someone at the post office the money & have a round peice of paper..PLEASE!

wisewood
14-11-06, 04:22 PM
Not unless you can prove that the car is yours to tax in the first place :D

If anyone were allowed to tax a car based only on insurance certificate and an MOT certificate.

What would stop someone stealing your car in somerset, driving it to glasgow and happily driving it round for the next 5 years? As long as they phone their insurance company and get it insurance, and go to a local garage and get an MOT, they wouldnt have any problem getting tax.

The rules exist for a reason - why dont you have the log book again?

I was sold the car without it. Suffice to say the V5 has arrived within a week of application. Thankyou DVLA. They say to wait upto 6 weeks.

Anyway, thought I'd attempt to tax her online last night & when I entered the ref no for this vehicle. It said I couldnt do it online & had to go to a licensing office.... ahwell. Going to post office in half an hour. :thumb:

Dave Rand as your from Billingham which is near me, I can totally agree that the roads in this area are absolutely sh*te! I once had to drive 15/20 miles with a dented alloy and flat tyre thanks to a nice pothole in the road!

p.s forgot to put my spare back in the boot .... doh!

Why is reducing post counts a punishment. I didnt realise it was a badge of honour (ASBO).

be quite easy to produce the code that did it - kev is the one with all the ftp though, and since we pay for the forum software, we dont want to go mucking it up lol

LOL.

We've had some monkies turn up lately who are obsessed with it. I took one of them back to zero.

craig green
16-11-06, 03:48 PM
Haha. That'll teach em.

I tend to watch my post count on MIG from time to time as my mate is the top poster still, even though he hasnt posted for over a year.

36000 or more IIRC !!

Jack
16-11-06, 03:51 PM
Some people think post count = forum status, so when you get over a certain amount you instantly become a mod/admin. I've had a few PM's asking me things from people who thought I was admin; I just answer their query and put them right, or point them in the direction of real admin.

Maybe we need a public vote, VOTE RAZORJACK FOR ADMIN lmfao lol

Matt2107
16-11-06, 03:53 PM

Matt2107
16-11-06, 03:54 PM
Public vote on admin would be pretty cool.

I dont want to be nominated though... I'd make a ****e admin.

wisewood
16-11-06, 03:57 PM
public votes on such things wouldnt work. Most popular doesnt mean best for the job. Look at George Bush lol lol

Jack they probably thought you were admin because of the technicolour novel written in your sig...

I'm all up for regional organisers!

wisewood
16-11-06, 04:22 PM
we dont need regional organisers because we operate a "if you fancy a meet in your area, post about it and get it sorted" policy.

:D

Matt2107
16-11-06, 04:26 PM
I guess its the best way.

Although regular meets will lead to more organisation.
I would love to organise some paint balling but that will be for next year maybe.

Jack
16-11-06, 04:31 PM
public votes on such things wouldnt work. Most popular doesnt mean best for the job. Look at George Bush lol lol
I didn't think he got the majority public vote though? Or was that just a Moore-ism lol

wisewood
16-11-06, 04:34 PM
God Bless Michael Moore. He's my hero.

he must have been most popular, i mean - its america, land of the free, home of democracy... how could he be in charge if the people didnt put him there :D

Jack
16-11-06, 04:40 PM
home of democracy...
One thing I do love about America is how their people go on about Democracy. Yet America functions more like a Republic than a Democracy lol

wisewood
16-11-06, 04:46 PM
I just dont get the american system - how can you have a situation where, essentially, for example - Tony Blair is in charge, and he is head of the labour party, but the house of commons, and the house of lords is run entirely by conservatives.

It's ridiculous. Essentially, george is now nothing but a face for the american public, and they obviously dont want him, they've voted against his party, so why is he now still there for two years... i dont get it.

you can get annual bus tickets from most bus companies and train tickets as well altho u still looking at about a grand for one anyway.
