Now, i tried to sell it, tried to break it and so on, but work committments (RAF, A new car (DC5) and generally me not being ****d, it sat in my garage since october last year! So, the other day when i went to grab somethig from out the garage me and my mate stood and had a good chat whilst looking at the car and both almost simultaneously decided - REBUILD TIME

Plans were forged to transform it from Chav poster Art to a fully blown track weapon!

We decided, lose the skirts, mirrors, tailgate and bumpers and paint!

Keep the Arches, fit widened GSi bupers, Manta 400 mirrors, STD tailgate (POSS F.Glass) and rear lights and a respray in white, Compo MOs and an LET

To name but a few changes!!!!

Ive spent the best part of my "lunch hours" (AKA All day) ripping the gay kit off the shell and its actually starting to resemble a nova again!! I start as i mean to go on!!!

Heres how it is now!

As i stripped a GSi recently i thought i can use alot of the good bits off it to rebuild mine! One of these is the ENTIRE loom of the car, so i have started to remove that and should hopefully have that out, along with the dash tomorrow!

The engines also ready to drop out, once the lower arms/tie bars are removed. ive already got the loom out from the engine.

So, soon i will be cleaning up the bay, plating it all with a HH kit and maybe smoothing the inner wings! Dunno wether to remove the bulkhead yet??

Not a fan of kitted Novas but i actually liked that !!
Will be much better with std bumpers & an LET tho, if its gonna be a track beast then i wouldn't bother smoothing the inner wings, folk usually remove the bulk head bit to aid air flow for carbs / bodies, not really needed on an LET but it cant hurt to get a bit more air thru it !!
Should be a weapon when finished, any ideas on ETA ?

Loving your brembos matey... at least as a track weapon they will be put to good use.

I noticed the modification to the spoiler half way through... did you just chop the upright bits off.

Right well today i continued my quest to get it to a bare shell

Removed the headlining, dash, loom, servo + master cylinder, TCAs/Lower arms/Hubs/Driveshafts, and lots more

All thats in is the rear beam and struts and the engine and box to be removed tomorrow!!

Then the grinding begins!!
Ill be removing all unused brackets, removing the wheel well, Turreting the rears, welding in seat rails and removing the centre brace, removing the bulkhead, removing the washer bottle mount and grinding back all the seams in the bay to check the welding and redo if necessary! ill also be fitting a HH plating kit!

More things planned include fully welded in triangulated cage, pedal box, Hyd Hbrake, internal fuel and brake lines etc etc!!

The joy continues!! ill get some pics up of work so farl tomorrow!!

Stay in touch rent boy, there will probably be stuff we both need where ordering in bulk may save a few pennies.

The car will be a beast, but you'll still be slightly poofy!

Okiees mate, what sort of stuff you thinking of??

About time i gave the car what it deserves anyway!!

As im stripping it im absolutely gobsmacked at just how solid this shell is, ive only found one piece of rust and thats a 10p sized hole in the front panel!!!!!

Thats good news mate, but it has been looked after though!

Well Polycarbs come to mind, and the exhaust (if we go down as a 3 with Dar we should get a fair wedge off!)

Stoo
02-11-06, 09:35 PM
yeah im doing the internal cav linkage route so i can do a complete straight thru system with no bends down the middle of the car!

Poly carbs are a definite!! I need a diff too!!!

oo bargain, we'll definately save some pennies if we buy a pair! I take it your after a quaife and not a plate jobbie?

Stoo
02-11-06, 09:56 PM
Im not sure yet! I dont really know the difference to be hones and what ill benefit more from having!!

Its gonna be mostly used for fast road and track days!

We might as well get a few sheets of poly carb and make our own mate!

Lee

its an age long debabte, people say the ATB is snatchy but you dont need to service it, and the plate diff is better but needs servicing every so often. Ive driven a car with an ATB and I loved it, so im getting one of them!

We could make our own, but id rather buy the proper jobs, its worth the effort saved IMO. especially farting around making a slider. Id have to buy some tools to make them too.

02-11-06, 10:08 PM
Cool looks like an ATB it may be then!!

Sort of costs for the Polys??

Excellent work mate, i think the look you went for before would have stunned people in 1999/2000 but was just gay now. Glad to see you've seen sence. Should be an awesome car when finished!

Keith

I agree, although i did start building that a few years ago, just took time to finish!!

Anyway, todays work!!

Engine, box and loom are out. Seams in the bay have had the seam sealer removed and primed to stop rust lol until i get it welded again as im not sure theyve been welded!!! Impressed with the condition of the bay though, battery tray is solid as a rock, and i only found 2 very small bits of rot but there a piece of piss to reapir!! Winner! So thats 3 small biuts now, looks a very very solid shell indeed!

That took most of the day as i had other stuff on, namely refitting the injection system and inlet to the XE i removed! And also selling my twin 45s for ?300!!!

Tomorrows work will include removing rear beam and rear dampers, tank and fuel lines (BIN), handbrake lever, steering rack and column, dash and rest of loom! Then the grindage begins!!

How ironic, the guy i sold my carbs to lives round the corner and guess what he does for a living! Hes a welder!!!

Bonus! Got my man for the huge list of weldage to be done!!!!

Ill get pics up of the days progress later!

Mr-G

He has moved into a small unit over by Aldershot car spares.

He is charging me ?700 to replace my sills and arches, weld 2 plates under the bonnet, respray the 1/4 panels, get rid of some minor rust at the bottom of the drivers door and sort out the lock on the passenger door.

What sort of spraywork are you after because i dont think he likes respraying entire cars but if you want i can give you his number and you can give him a call and have a chat to him. its 07914922236
