well, my manifold has been on it's last legs for a while. i have been looking to get a group a manifold and exhaust, as the manifold had a small hole, then 2 weeks ago i drove to liverpool to see my gf, and that made it worse. so... i stopped driving it, then tonight i went to look at a rally prep'd nova (very fooish move...) on the way back the manifold sheered off...

came to a holt with a rather filed exhaust... had to unbolt the backbox and then put the exhaust in the car and drive back 20miles with no exhaust :D what i didnt realise was that i had been lying in tar as the road had just been resurfaced so i now have f**ked clothes to top it all off...

plus i now have no car and there's a road rally this weekend that i wanted to watch as there's a mk2 escort with honda s2000 engine and running gear :thumb:

s**t happens... ?198.5 for manifold and exhaust. anyone know if vauxhall will stock head studs and nuts??

thats my nova adventure.

chris

ps. it was the road rally nova thats on ebay, was a nice car, but the paint work let it down. sadly seller wants ?1800 with comps or ?1650 without

If you mean manifold studs and nuts there are pretty cheap and still stocked.
Make sure you get the right amount though as they sold my gf 6 instead of 8

My 4-branch snapped once, so i had a brace welded across the pipe to the collector.
They always break there due to the stress place on that joint as it holds the front section of the exhaust too.

last nights affair continued when i got in a realised that i had been lying in tar on the raod, so had to clean my coat and jeans, threw it all in the wash, and luckily came out... what i hadn't remembered to do in the rush, was to remove my wallet from my pocket... gotta love blue ?20 notes :( luckily changed them all at the bank this morning after some curious questions and evil stares...

back to the exhaust... just ordered a group a manifold and exhaust ?206.44...(inc. postage) will be here tomorrow morning. just bought some studs from vauxhall ?8... bargain. whats the best way of getting the old studs out? they are really rusted!!!
going to go all out and fit a new clutch at the same time, there's only so much juddering me and the car can take lol.

gonna get the old manifold repaired and use a spare for rallying.

Extracting studs.... you need two nuts.

Put the first nut on a bit. Tighten the top nut down to the bottom one.

Then extract the nut using the bottom nut which will push against the top nut and extract the stud.

Think i got that right.

thats what i was thinking, but the thread is so rusted... was thinking of maybe resorting to mole grips

worth spraying some wd-sorty on the studs first?

To be honest half of mine came out with the nuts when I put my 4 branch on lol.

I did have to resort to using a socket that was 1 size too small and whacking it a bit.

well, i'm taking a 4 branck off... so i'm guessing that the studs aren't too old. although looking at them they could be original...

i'll use the nuts i take off

The nuts get pretty mangled if they've been on a while.

I replaced all mine with stainless M8 bolts.
Covered the threads with copper grease.
I just hope they dont shear off should i need remove the manifold,Lol.
