not startin

so car got stolen. put a new engine in. now it wont start. have turned engine over by hand but starter doesnt seem to be turning.
power is going to the starter but nothins happenin. i have 2 starters and neither of them works in it.
what do i do?
ps what does the wire on the underside of the distributer do(from the loom with a plug on the end)

connect the red/black wire from the starter straight to be battery and see what happens

Have you fitted the engine earth strap?

What engine?

Fuel injection ones have the strap between inner wing and gear box. Carbed dont always have this strap.

fuel injection have the ground strap to the started carb ones have it to the inner wing to gearbox one

Nope, My 1.4sr and quite a few others haven`t got the gearbox to inner wing one, but most injected vauxhall Novas, Astras and Cavaliers I work on have.
