Basically Im doing this combo (I know its been done before!!) but im just wondering on connections.
Video out => lcd monitor
Audio out => ????
Where does the audio output go so that the audio comes out of the speakers in the car and not the monitors poo speakers??
Do I need a stereo with audio input at the rear (if you can get them) or should I use one of those FM transmitter things and tune the stereo to it?
Cheers people

HU with an input would be easiest, my Alpine has an input on the back. Have to nose through the menus though to enable and use it (so the source button then cycles through CD, FM Tuner and Aux)

I'm planning this.... but at the minute I'm lacking some vital components.

1) a screen
2) the time to finish extending the switch wiring on the xbox.

As Jack suggested would be the best solution.

yeah i thought i would need to get a head unit with an input, ahh well new headunit time :D
Where are you putting your screen matt? Mine is going in where the clock and heater vents are, so im going to have to relocate the hazard switch.

oh do you know what wattage the xbox is as i can get a 150W power inverter for 15 quid but I think an xbox uses 275W if my calculations are correct.

Not sure mate but I'll have a look tonight if you like?

My screen is going in the same place. lol its the only logical place to put it.
I've made up an MDF template to work out which is the biggest screen I can fit. I'm gonna block up the heater outlets too so hot air doesnt blow onto the back of the screen in winter. Will pm you the rest of the plans lol they're top secret.

haha mine are too, suffice to say my screen is ready for fitting, will have to send you pics of how im doing it! Although im kind of thinking im going to put a laptop and touch screen tv in so i can play the windows media patterns that play while you are listening to music (the visuals) and also so I can play music videos to music that is in my car etc. although i suppose i could do the latter on the xbox

My brother has made a few enquiries into a "carputer"
He's priced up some kit and its not too expensive or hard to do really.

Xbox was the logical solution for me as it has dvd player and I have **** loads of games. I've always turned to Xbox rather than ps2 as its more superior.

Do they?

Surely not as in the winter when you put the heaters on you get warm air from those vents too?

IIRC an XBOX is about 100 watts on startup then a bit less once its running. If you use the basic spec output cable it has phono connectors on it for audio output.

I strongly urge you to look into 'modifying' your xbox and running XBMC :thumb:.

And yes matt, the centre vents always blow cold.

Why not be totally new and use an x box 360 mated to a 26" HD TV in a boot build?

XBMC = xbox media center. Its based on mplayer so plays pretty much anything, and has a really nice UI, and is skinnable.

Excuse the shoddy pics lol:

Yeah, unless you're lucky enough to have one that softmods (older ones). Once its been chipped though you can swap the 8gig hdd for a much larger one and stick loads of media on there. PM me if you need any help.

You can pick a second hand xbox up for ?20 now.
I haven't seen 360's cheaper than around ?200.
Another ?400??? for the screen?

Plus this has been done already now too.

I run XBMC on my XboX and it really is a great mod to do, coupled with the 46gig (?) hdd it makes it very versatile - oh and xmbmc with its interchangable skins looks trick as fcuk too lol
