Just got back from donnington (hd a track day theer for anyone that didnt know). Ive never had a problem with noise with the corsa before, but it turns out i was the loudest there and thus have been removed from the track .
On my first session i did one full lap on full boost before i was black flagged, apparently I got 112db. So seeing as i only live down the road we went back and put a standard cat back on and put it on low boost setting. The ar felt so slow like this but still managed to get me black flagged again after the first lap. Still by doing the exhaust and boost i managed to get it down to 102db but the limit is 98db an the old ladies in the local area are getting ****y just like at combe.
Ah well at least i managed to upset some high powered 4x4 cars in the few laps i did, with a lot of WTF comments lol.
Only thing that worries me is i have a T34 hybrid turbo and 3 inch exhaust going on soon an if the standard bore system and turbo are making this much noise i dread to think whats it going to be like then
Can't you get a custom system made with some mahoosive silencers?
May well be too restrictive then though!!
Damn moaning residents! I'd rather hear cars being thrashed around a track than some old biddy with a lawnmower any day!

or could you not get one of the silencers that just bolt onto your tailpipe, easily removed/ fitted if required?
Good call!
A bung isn't it?
Just drill a hole and wack it in as/when required

:wtf:
theres one on the tv sri130 on page 86 of this months tv obviously
Gotta love the muppets who buy a house next to a race track and then expect nice quiet peaceful weekends lol
gutting when that happens lol
Me and Brett Warburton got thrown off bruntingthorpe for the noise when we were there.
Will think carefully about my exhaust choice this time

u have to lift off down the straight where they measure... it's the only way to make sure your under lol
Thats what I was afraid of when I went to Donnington. I backed off where the recording equipment was on every lap so I didn't get caught.
How much running did you get in the end?

Think i managed about 10 laps all in. After the third black flag they said right thats it, no more track for me. Apparently there isnt just one sound measuring equipment, there are loads all the way road hence why i got caught. Think they have added some more since you went dar, as the council is trying to shut the track down coming from all the marshalls ect.. the things with teh bungs is they will sap massive power and i may as well take a 1.4 spi auto round. Which i did consider after the second black flag to go to the garage and use a ?20 1.4spi auto we had just bought for parts in the expert class lol
i may as well take a 1.4 spi auto round
lol
Yep, ill be very careful when selecting my new system to be sure! Noice limits are definately coming down.
Thruxton is the worst IIRC.

I dont want it to be just a pod car but its looking that way, they dont care if I take the exhaust off from the turbo back lol. I need a custom 3 inch system making from scratch soon anyway so I shall see what can be doen there. Thing is it wasnt really the exhaust making the noise on mine, it was the turbo, most people there thought it was supercharged it was screaming that much.
You'l have to post some sounnd clips up phill i havent herd it runing yet..
any vids?

Well im sure there will be some posted up on the evo forum or something, for two sessions a white evo with 350bhp couldnt get past me, he had a camera in the car as far as i know. Was faster on the corners but you cant over take on the corners lol

Well done i say !
 Just 10 laps. Thats bad
All of the noise from my car comes from the front as well lol
They said that they had noise testing equipment all around the track when I was there, but they couldn't have had :wtf: (Or maybe my car is under 98db)
You've got to try and find the footage from the Evo, although he probably won't host it. It may turn up here (http://www.lancerregister.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=9)

Thats not true at all.
If you use someone who knows what their doing you can have a very free flowing system that is easily quiet enough for trackdays.

Simpson Race Exhausts

There are plenty of others too that can make a exhaust that will be within sound limits but will still keep the performance.
Dar- I would of thought the noise of your TB's would of been enough to get you a black flag, let alone your exhaust

Yeah, its not always the exhaust. Most fall foul because of induction noise. I was 97.5db at peak when I was there last and I'll have more boost next year so expect to be over.
They basically have to adhere to the 98db limit at weekends but its unlimited during the week. But they don't do Trackzone during the week, you have to go through indepndant companies. Mates doing one at Donington on Nov 16th through an independant and its unlimited.
How many cars were there in the end Phil? I wanted to go but it was sold out. Didn't want to drive for 3.5hrs in just the "hope" there might be free spaces! Spose I could of taken yours! lol

I did Donnington Park few months ago and was worried about noise.
People that know my car it aint quiet!
Exhaust noise, carb noise and straight cut box noise but it was ok.
Just kept far right comeing onto start finish straight where the microphone was hanging not to go directly under it and it seemed to do the trick!
That was the only place on the lap i could see a noise test meter.
Bad luck there then mate. Damn expensive 10 laps that turned out to be for ya then!

oh dear thats bad news phill, last time i was on running my t34 on 12psi with my full 3" exhaust with no boxes i never got flagged which seems very very strange! best have a re think this year as the turbo will be balls out and the exhaust i wasnt planning on changing!
when you was there it was a noisy day Jamie as it was Donny chav show.
As Jonlem says you can get a decent exhaust which doesnt reduce power and is quiet, look at WRC cars, I bet they are quieter than most cars on this site. I have a decent exhaust on mine which comes in at 91dB static.

Yup my TB's are alot noiser than my exhaust. My exhaust is not that loud, 94db static. I've only ever been banned from Motorsport events trackdays for noise and nothing since.

Ah chris thats the problem though, i would pass a static test no problem. When not under loud mine is very quiet, but soon as its on full boost its a whole other matter. Anyway i have a different turbo exhaust combo going on soon so shall see how that goes.
