The Unix nerds here all hate Windows, mainly because they don't use it. They bang on about how complicated everything is in Windows; so remembering a mahoosive command line plus half a billion options isn't?! lol

congratulations! That's something I'd like to do, but not really getting a chance to get that much exposure to Unix, most of our systems are Windows2k or 2k3.

jkhilton, its worth looking into - maybe not the SCO qualifications (although their exams are as far as I'm aware the only open book ones), but Unix is quite widely used in a range of flavours. And once you've got the hang of one flavour, you can fudge your way through the others :)

yeah, don't know much about it but I know its crap, as thats all I hear about it lol The IT storeman is having to sort out a load of hardware for it and is not best pleased!

btw for those confused, Unix is a command line operating system - think along the lines of MS DOS. Instead of having windows and pretty icons and start buttons, you have a text screen and have to type commands in to get the server to perform tasks. Good if you know the commands, bad if you don't!

My dad's been using a PC now for about 10 years, and still doesn't grasp the basic windows concepts - double clicks everything - and thinks that because I know a bit about computers, I'm an expert at working every software straight out; and can find (and have a mental index of) any and every company's website...

Might install Unix on his PC, that'll confuse him :D
