picking up my nova tomorrow so thought i'd say hello. this'll be me 1st nova, i've always been into my mk2 astra's (i've owned 8 so far, my current one's a let converted champion edition :))

the nova's gonna be my runabout for the next few weeks till my gte champion's finished then i'll be starting on that. i've got a set of masitaly 16's sat in the garage plus loads of other bits from mk2 astra's i've killed over the years that can go on. first job will be fitting a digidash so if anyone's got any advice it'll be appreciated

my nova's nothing special (yet ;)) it's a 1.5 diesel van from ebay, solid shell but scabby doors so i'll be tidying it up for now and going to town on it when the champs finished

it's got scabby doors but otherwise it's solid. mechanically there's a bit of a judder when you turn right and the brakes feel a bit spongy other than that it's a good little van & cost's feck all to run

BazW
23-10-06, 01:29 PM
the roads fooked, takes ages just to get to the top of the street. when it's raining you get mud all over em and when it's dry you get covered in dust :(

Lynsey
23-10-06, 02:38 PM
my road is crap also... tis a dead end and i live right near the dead part of it... terraced houses all the way... so have to reverse all the way to the other end (yep about 1/4 mile gggrrr) although i am great at it now!!! lol

gave it a clean and a polish, it actually comes up really good with a bit of TLC. fitted a set of 16's I had in the garage, now need to lower it a foot or two

draper
23-10-06, 02:51 PM
that will look brilliant lowered !!

TommySR
23-10-06, 02:51 PM
lol, just a tad, what offset are those wheels mate? look like they might cause problems with the arches if it was lowered?

BazW
23-10-06, 02:55 PM
45mm had them on one of my astra's lowered 60mm with no scrubage. it will be close on the arches on this tho, feck knows why? i've got a set of astra gte champion 15 inch alloys sat in the garage as well just in case

TommySR
23-10-06, 02:57 PM
yeah will be close but might get away with it if there rolled aswell? Ive had few Novas and some are just different to others, had wheels on one that were no problem yet on another they scrubbed. Looks good mate, love Novavans lol

TommySR
23-10-06, 02:58 PM
p.s. Your champions dead smart, cant beat Mk2's, shame there getting rare and rusty

BazW
23-10-06, 02:59 PM
the arches are starting to scab anyway so might as well roll them when I sort the other bits of paint that need doing

i had awheel that would rub only on one side, asked ma mate why and he said its because when they got made the rear axle's were sometimes to far one side or something like that

i think thats right, or the fact there getting on a bit now and stuff moves - especially if the car has been crashed at some point

TommySR
23-10-06, 07:19 PM
^^ yeah most modified ones have took some abuse aswell. My old GSi, i bought strut brace for it and it was no where near going to it, next MOT it failed due to twisted chassis... mmm lovely

BazW
23-10-06, 07:19 PM
same with the astra's, 9 times out of 10 only one side will catch

i'm gonna start on it at the weekend, I don't want to lower it too much cos it'll be lugging engines and my tools about for the next few months. i've also got a pair of 256mm dics and calipers from an astra GTE16v i'm breaking might fit them as the standard brakes are tiny and they've seen better days. the car had been stood for 6 months and when I took the wheel trims off loads of spiders were living in there..still itching now just at the thought

TommySR
23-10-06, 07:24 PM
even standard brakes that work well arent upto stoppin Novas lol

draper
23-10-06, 08:44 PM
or a parachute out the back

TommySR
23-10-06, 08:45 PM
or perhaps a big anchor off something like a cruise liner? have it in your boot, it will lower the car and help stop it? No worries lol

draper

might keep the monster truck suspension just untill my road gets sorted out.

the road has come in handy once though, I had some bother with a chav outside my house and the little **** came back and put the back window through on one of the astra's...only problem was he took off that fast he bottomed out on one of the potholes smashing his sump to bits. the oil trail's still there now so he definatley knackered his engine lol

Welcome aboard mate, as previously said, nice to see someone who can type!!!

Novas looking good and that champ is spank worthy!!

BazW
24-10-06, 11:28 PM
is there owt on here for fitting a C16XE? i've been looking through the mechanical section and can't really find anything. also is there anything for suspension differences? (as in between the GSi and diesel) i'm trying to get myself as clued up as possible because as soon as my astra's finished i'll be starting on the nova. i've already got one turbo'd vauxhall, fancy doing something different with the van

Stoo
24-10-06, 11:31 PM
Well if u fancy doing something different you dont see THAT many baby XEs on TBs!!

Get it done!

BazW
24-10-06, 11:45 PM

might have seen this one about, the scooby owners in Donny loved it lol this was the one the engine came from but it'd been in a smash at some time and the front end was out of shape, couldn't even fit a strutbrace on it it was that bad. decided to fit the engine in the other car that was near-mint instead
