I am about to buy a SR engine to replace my 1.2; I was just wondering what the differences are between the SR 1.3 and the SR 1.4 apart from the plain obverse, I thought that the 1.4 was made for the Mk2 but seeing it in the Mk1 has me confused :-/.

Is it a different cylinder head/cam?

I need to know because I intend to tune the engine lots! What engine is better for tuning and getting performance bits for?

Thanxs :)

From what I can see the 1.3 sr is 70 bhp std and the 1.4 is 75bhp std, Thats not a BIG difference to me.

The main difference is the torque.
I've seen the 1.3 and 1.4 both rated with 70PS, but the 1.4 has more torque.....not sure, as my Vaux brochures with the MKI only go up to 88.

Looking in the Haynes, that rates the 1.4 (14NV - carb model) as having 72 bhp and the 1.3 70 bhp.
Whatever you do, don't get the C14 NZ injected engine, as that's only got 60 bhp! (single-point injection, unlike the SRi's multi-point with 82 bhp.

Cylinder head is different 1.4 got a swirl inside. 1.3 dont. 1.4 is quicker and more torquey.
my m8 says my 1.4 is miles better than his 1.3 ever was.
also u should find a 1.4 with less miles.
tunin wise is pretty much the same.
easier to get a twin 40 inlet manifold for a 1.3 though as they came on sports

well i got a 1.4nv bottom end cause there strong engines and a 1.3 blydenstien head cause he reckons theres less restrictors in the 1.3 head so thats the set u i went for and with a few other mods eg cam, 40's i can beat my mate in his standard 1.9 shitty pug gti hahaha

I dont belive the figures for the injected engine. When you see them on the rollers they tend to make more power than the carbed lump. My mates SRI goes quite well for a 1400 he's had it up to 125 on the clock, I couldnt get that out of my sr
