1.6 bottom end on 1.3?

If i got hold of a 1.6 bottom end, would i be able to fit it to a 1.3 sr nova engine? if i can, how much work is involved and will i need to change the gear box and piss about with the driveshafts etc?

Ged I think all the nova engines use the small block, so the heads may change over without to much trouble, or you could also use the 1.6 head, this would be better because the valves ect will be bigger to handle the extra air flow. The 1.3 has a 190 mm dia clutch but the 1.4 and 1.6 use a 200mm clutch, The 1.3 usses an f10 gearbox and the 1.4 & 1.6 use an f13 gearbox. To keep the same box and shafts I think you could change the flywheel from the 1.3 engine to the 1.6? The only way would be to buy an engine and box to find out, or what about buying a full GTE from the breakers section of the autotrader, say one thats had a rear end, then you could nick other bits such as roll bars, side skirts ect..

All i want to do is fit the bottom end of a 1.6 to a 1.3 engine, i dont really want to transplant the whole engine, cos i need it to look standard (say no more...) and i dont want to change the box, cos having a smaller box will make it quicker...

So to soum it up...i only want to change the bottom end and the brakes (and maybe little things to get the bottom end compatible with the rest of the engine...but thats about it.

Has anyone ever carried this mod out? I'd rather spend a couple of hundred quid on doing this that hundreds on carbs, cams etc...

GED IF U USE THE GTE ENGINE U CAN USE YOUR GEARBOX IF U CAHANGE THE FLYWHEEL.

IF USE THE SR INLET MANIFOLD AND CAR IT WILL FIT MINT.

U CAN CHANGE THE CAM HOUSING FOR THE SR ONE AND KEEP THE GTE CAM. THE FUEL PUMP SHOULD BOLT STRAIGHT IN AND U WILL HAVE A 1.6 THAT LOOKS LIKE A 1.3. U WILL HAVE TO GET THE SR CARB REJETTED AND SETUP FOR THE NEW ENGINE THOUGH BUT THIS SHOULD BE ABOUT ?50 WITH A ROLLING ROAD SESSION.

I AM CURENTLY PLANNING TO DO THIS WITH MINE BUT IM GONNA USE MY PIPER CAM AS WELL COZ IT FITS 1.2 TO 1.6 ENGINES

DONT TRY AND PUT A 1.6 BOTTOM TO A 1.3 TOP END!!!
I had that combination in my old nova, BAD MISTAKE!!
the 1.6 will create too much pressure and blow the head gasket, it might even warp the head!!
i would recomend putting a 1.4 head on your 1.3 bottom end, with a highlift cam on it, my mates sellin his cam, its a Schrick race cam, cost him ?350 but he sold his car before he got chance to fit it.

if i was you i would go for a 1.4/1.3 combination.
