Can anyone recommend a decent set of speakers to fit in the corners of the dash above the heater vents (where the factory supplied speakers fit). WE have just got a new set of gsi door cards and don't want to cut a hole in them unless there is no other option?
Cheers

Cheers 10cm components, has anyone fitted any 10cm components behind the vents, if you have what is the max mounting depth available and what make/spec of speakers did you fit? Finally, would you recommend them to me based on sound quality db output?
We really don't want to cut holes in the new gsi door cards if we can obtain decent results from 10cm components hidden behind the dash. For info the headset is an Alpine CVA-1004R, with a planet audio dvd under the dash and an Alpine 6x MP3 Cd changer under the passenger seat, with a couple of 180w 6x9's on the rear shelf and 165w planet audio speakers in the existing gte door cards (these will be for sale with the rest of the gte interior once we have the new behind vent speakers fitted). Amp and sub are next on the wish list, but I need get the new speakers 1st so I can finish fitting the new gsi interior and raise a bit more cash selling the gte interior.
Many thanks.
Take a look here (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product_list/c_path/60_66_99/spd/10cm---4-speakers.html) for some 10cm speakers. Not sure about the mounting depth, but I fitted these (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2498.html) fine.
Those Pioneer speakers specs look very impressive. Ianiel - I'd like to see how these speakers are fitted and what you have to take off to access fitting them as I want to put speakers in the dash.

@Iainel:
Cheers m8, just the info I was after. Those Pioneer's look about the same depth as most others 10cm components on the market so it seems like the majority will fit. I'm off on ebay to buy a set!
@dannyb:
Remove the side window verts from the dash to enable access to fit the front speakers in the dash. (See Haynes section 13-51).
Yeah Haynes should help you to fit them. It's tight and you'll cut your hands to shreds though. lol
Dannyb I'll sort you out with some pictures tomorrow when it's light so you can see them mounted in the dash. :thumb: IMO they fit quite well.

I installed a pair of SONY XPLOD 10CM Speakers behind the dash today, yes I did take all the skin off my knuckles to get them in, but job was done in less than 30mins. Also you don't need remove the glovebox as per Haynes. Good sound, nice speakers for teh size of em. Oh and ?13 delivered from ebay.

i just went out and bought some 10cm ones then enthusiasticly took the bits off and was dissapointed that i cant appear to get them in that well
have you only got one screw holding them in and are they ok like that. The cardboard bit of the dash inside seems to be touching the rubber part of the cone surlely it will sound poop

Hi,
Yes I did only use one screw. The plastic ducts I pushed back out of the way to get them in. The card does not foul the speakers and when you put the vent back on it pushes up against the underside of the speaker to sort of sandwich it in place. I was a bit worried about the offside one and put some bubblewrap at the back of it to stop the magnet sticking to the chassis, but on fitting the vent back in I realised it wern't needed as the duct pressed up on the underside of the speaker. It was tight I've still got the scabs on my knuckles to prove it! If you wish to cut the card out to take the speaker properly (i.e. cut that flat spot out) then its a dash out job.

Yeah its an old thread but invaliable to the people that are in the process of doing just that, i.e. replacing the front dash speakers, i have been contemplating it for awhile now and ive read some of the threads, so i guess if your fussy and want all the screw in to hold the speakers in place then your only option would be to take dash out, sure thats not that much of a big job taking into consideration your an average slightly better than diy-er?
