was wondering do all 1.6 16v engines have a coded ecu were you need the key to cancel it? as the ecu on my 1.6 16v is coded was wondering if i culd change it to a non coded one as i had the key that mathces my ecu stolen

The ecu's aren't coded as far as i know, i think its the transponder behind the ignition barrel that are coded and they match the key to the transponder.

yea it mates withe the barrel not the ecu mate

yes but you can get the ecu's modified so that they dont need the signal from the transponder

so i can use a key and transponder from another car with the ecu from a different one?

Nope they are talking bollocks.

Firstly the Transponder is the chip in the key, the "transponder" as they called it is basically signal booster/reader which reads the key code and pass's it onto the ECU these dont need to be matching as any off any car will do. (although if you can just keep the three together)

The ECU IS CODED and the Chip in the key from the donor car is needed.

There are a few options avalible, if you have or can find a willing 1600 16v Astra/Tigra/Corsa owner you can turn the code to 0000 with Tech 2 (need to fnd a very willing Tech 2 Owner).

You can send your ECU off to one of many companies to remove the Immobiliser data from the ECU this cost (last time i checked) about ?150

Or you can find a matching set ie: ECU, Key (with transponder chip fitted into it) and the signal amplifier.

I have done all of these options on conversions depending on whats avalible and what the customer wants doing.

The problem with getting the code reset is im paranoid that if the car loses power etc it might flash the original back up (not that ive ever known this happen, im just paranoid).

Best option is sending the ECU off but this is the most expensive.

Any problems just ask!

Oh another option is to find a C16 XE engine loom (complete with the Injector loom and the multi plug that goes under the inlet manifold) and C16 XE ECU and swap it all over as the C16 XE did not have an immobiliser in the ECU.

And YES it does run the X16 XE just like the X14 XE managment will.

And YES it does run the X16 XE just like the X14 XE managment will. Are you sure?
As c16 has a different management system than the x14/16 engines, using AFM etc whereas X16 dont.

So is it just the ecu and key that is coded and need to be matched?
The signal reader from any car will work as long as key and ecu are matched?

Yer for once you wernt! LMFAO only joking.

Tech 2 is the Vauxhall main diagnostics tool that main agents use, although main agents WONT wipe the codes, ned to find a Vaux specalist prepared to do it.
