View Full Version : Front wheel bearings..

Im pretty sure my front wheel bearings r shagged. I've heard from several people that changing these can be a bugger of a job. Now, is it just technically difficult or just fiddly and time consuming? Could they both be done in a day?
Any tips or words of advice with regards to this problem would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers. B-)

The problem is getting the outer race out of the stearing knuckle. You should try to borrow a puller or press to help with this. My mate has a bar (scafold possibly)that fits perfectly and is used to gently (not) drift the race out with a sledge hammer. If it is really badly stuck you can run a welder around the inside of the race, as the weld cools it contacts and pulls the race inwards very slightly freeing it off, be carefull not to weld the knuckle though!

strip it off yourself take the knuckle to a garage and get then to press the new bearing in

MM, not anything like how i did it, mind u it took me 4 hours with a huge F-off hammer, a dremel cutter, and lots of heat!
The botch problem i had was with the circlip! I didnt have any of the special circlip liers and it kept slipping off!
