im trying to put a 4.18 final drive in and i cant get the gear cassette out to get to the 5th gear! how do you do it?? any help please.

either use a soft mallet and hammer the input shaft from the clutch end. OR there are little locating studs that you can knock out with a punch.. one is at the bottom of the box (if it was on the car)

yeh i tried to hit it yesterday and it didnt budge so i left it. so i'll have to try harder lol

right ive now got everything out. thank god.lol but is it just me or is the circlip that holds 5th gear in place a **** to get off? whats the best way??
5th gear? WTF..... you mean the final drive pinon gear.. ie the most inner gear in the box.
the clip comes off fine usually

yeah the last gear. got the clip of now, its just wont go back on lol

right, before im about to change the crown wheel i counted the amount of teeth it had and compared it to the new one, and they both have the same amount. so should i change it over or not? they both the same size???
count the crown and count the pinon. divide the bigger number by the smaller one and see where you end up
iirc the 4.18 should be 17 on the small and 71 on the big.
