hmm. yes. If i wanted to get ET38 wheels down 5-8mm to ET43-45 can this be done easily by some place for not much money and hassles??
Didn't someone on here (oldskool ish, breeny?) get a set of wheels machined down to a more vauxhall-friendly offset successfully?
muchly ta.

I wouldn't take more than 5mm off.

yeah, i have to agree - distance between the chamfer/well where wheel nuts sit is going to be thinner to the back of the wheel.. but end of the day still be loads - i mean what must porsche wheels be like with they're ET50-65 offsets? wafer thin?
Anyway; anyone know any gaffes to call up n pester?
Thanks longlive.

Try Fearless, he had VW fitment MIM Imola's on his Rusty Rocket back in the day (no-one did 15" wheels in Vaux offset at the time-1994?5?) IIRC he hed them machined down.....

with the 50 offsets like porsche have. the wheels are designed to have the correct thickness bolt holes so they arent wafer thin... and on the flip side my ET25 front wheels dont have like a foot metal between bolt hold and hub lol

I ordered smiths oblivions in an et49 and was sent et45... I had them machined at the expense of the company that I brought them off. I think it cost him around ?20 a wheel or something like that.

I wouldnt wanna take any more off than 4-5mm though. They do still sit nice and flat though. It is perfectly safe IIRC for those particular wheels as thats how they achieve an offset of et49 as the wheels they manufacture were made with et45.

You can run wheels with a et45 but I'm picky... i ordered 49's so demanded 49's

nice job. I wouldnt use wheels with anything other than et49 tbh. Well I havent done until now. You can feel tramlining on GM 15s so I wouldnt go with anything else as its bound to be worse.

Sorry but I'd just like to say that I think my wheels look very sexy... I know everyone else will hate them but Bah who cares.

Yeh I had some wheels machined down back in the day. The engineering place said they wouldn't take too much material off as alloy wheels are machined to quite strict tolerances.

They took off about 2mm in the end I think, but I guess it would all depend on the design of the wheel etc.

I probably wouldn't bother again to be honest.. lol

i had it done to my first set of wheels 5 or 7mm - cant remember. took 'em to a local engineering place for ?10 a wheel. Also they offered to make up bolt spacers so i could use the same bolt and they wouldnt foul the brakes

Bit extreme but I'd love a set of Pug 1.9 GTi rims on a Nova. Need the offset machining back aswell as the bolt circle alloy welded over & a new 4x100 PCD redrilling in.

Just a dream.....
