View Full Version : Won't start when wet! (1.2carb)

This problem started 3 days ago now after some heavy rain. If it's raining or there's moisture in the air (every morning now it's Winter) my 1.2 carb refuses to start. It turns over but doesn't fire up and run (think that's the correct terminology :p). Yesterday afternoon I started it up fine when it was a bit warmer and dry so I definitely think it's because of the rain.

The first time I did this I checked the air filter, spark plugs and inside the distributor cap for signs of dampness/wet but didn't find anything.

Can somebody please help me narrow the problem down? It's not nice relying on lifts from people

Thanks in advance :thumb:

Can you see anywhere where water is getting in?

I don't see anywhere excess amounts of water should be getting in to the engine bay itself, no.

Check all of the ignition system, it sounds like a classic case of damp air highlighting problems in the HT circuit., leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm might need replacing due to broken-down insulation on the leads or arcing-out in the cap. Check and clean the plugs while you're there to, if the leads need replacing change the plugs at the same time in case there's any "tracking" down the outside of the plug.
