any1 got nay ideas how much power klbe running on a new shape sr with twin 40's,cam and bored out?can it be bored to 1.6 and any idea what bhp il be running im after about 120 if it s bored what else do i need to do?

U could get a 1.4 engine, bire it out to use 1.2 pistons so it would be like a 1.5, and use webbers! If u had a performance cam and exhaust you should be looking at well over 120bhp!

I`ve got a 1.4 (1391cc) std bottom end with a Blydenstein head, Cam, Zorst and manifold, and most importantly Twin 40`s. I`ve got 130bhp (125 according to fast car, doh). THe head is the key to the success of it all, and a lot of hard graft.

The parts cost me just over ?1000 inc exhaust and manifold, but I didnt have to pay ne labour coz I did it all myself. )-60 isnt timed yet but its quick, quicker than a 5GTT or Fiesta RST or 205 1.9GTi etc etc... Top end speed going by clock is about the 125-128 mark, but I have had it off the clock on a slight gradient. These probably equal about 115mph in real terms.

Breeny was in the 205, and he could probably just see me in the distance going after the 5GTT. What I`ve noticed is that I tend to be quicker on traffic light grand prixs, and speeds upto around 100mph, then the turbo motors start to come into their own as we witnessed when myself and Breeny were both passed by a stage 1 RS turbo when we were both going flat out. My secret is not the power, but the weight. I have no back seats, carpets, sound insulation, and I`ve got light weight buckets with competition sub frames. I`ve removed things like under dash trays, rear wiper and motor, centre console, door pockets and handles etc etc etc.... and it works! Small capacity turbo motors rely on high boost and large turbos which means lag, and b4 anyone says what about dump valves, you have to have the turbo upto speed b4 a dump valve is useful, so initial pull away is a problem. One last thing, RST fiestas aint that quick, they are only booked at about 7.9 secs to 60, and I think that is poo! I have more respect for the 5 turbos which I did a neck and neck quater mile run with in my std Cav GSi, so even they aint that rapid. Turbos aint the ultimate solution as I found out speakin to the guy with the 2.0 16v turbo nova who was timed at 7.5 secs to 60!

MC's car is very very quick. I've seen it and heard it in action. I've spoken to and met MC a number of times and he knows his stuff. I must admit it's one of the quickest hot hatches around (which makes me green with envy) , I dare any of you to challenge him. What you need to realise is that his car is a 1.4!!! No turbo, No 16V unit, just a very well modified 1.4 engine. GAZ453, come down and witness the power. Whenever we get together, MC's engine is usually the main talk of the day.

Scotte if you are looking for big power and are planning to spend big money it might pay you to get a 1.6 engine to start with? You could get 120bhp from a 1.4 but it's likley to cost you more and the 1.6 would have more future potential (up to 150-160 with serious mods).

as much as I ahte to admit it, MC's car is very fast, alot faster than mine and I have a 1.6 GSi with full magnex exhaust and manifold and power boost valve, K&N 57i. So I agree with Breeny, anyone who doubts his claims should come and race him!!!! I know I regretted it!!!!!! :)

well if ur round the northwest why not pop in to wigan any day of the week ill be on currys next to maccys, ill have u a go its only a standered 1.4 sri but so what, if u beat me then fur play to ya, but if you think u can beat turbos my mate has a Vdub golf turbo which is standered but fucking fast have a go with him, be very serprised if u do him though, respect. p.s give u a shout if ya coming down.:D

Mike, I`ve got Avo adjustables, so I can taylor them for the track or road I`m on. I can get Understeer or Oversteer or neutral drift. I got some very grippy Toyo`s too and Cav Gsi brakes with Tarox 40 groove discs. Gaz, is your mates golf a mk5 1.8 20v turbo? If so m8 I`ll give it a go coz they is heavy, only have 150bhp, and are booked at 8secs to 60, which is slower than a std Fessy RST or 5GTT, and I had an escort RST in a proper long cross country dual carriageway and roundabout stretch, and he was quick, but me was quicker, and I have 4 witnesses to that, one of which was a passenger in my car which gave him the edge of being in the car on his own! As to racing u I dont think I`ll bother m8!

MC - Golf Turbo = 150 BHP, yours was about 105 BHP wasn't it? Might be heavier but 45 BHP extra your hoping a bit there aren't you? A better race would proberbly be with Gaz with his 90 BHP. The 1.8 20v Turbo golf is a mk4 and as for book 0 - 60 times a Renault Clio 16v is booked at 7.7 but the Mk 4 Golf turbo leaves them for dust. I have also seen it beat R5 GT Turbos, Escort Turbos and Renault 21 Turbo's. Rob26 your 1.2 would not beat Gaz's ;)

I`m actually finding it personally offensive that you are doubting my word as to my conquests. I have been driving for many years, and have owned tuned and driven many fast cars including Astra GTE`s and Cav GSi`s so I know about performance m8. Well Fast car said 125 brake, yeah? I have no reason to doubt MC when he says he has tested 130. So 130 brake nova V's 150 brake Golf. 150 brake pullin a huge heavy golf, or 130 brake pullin somethin that weighs about as much as a bunch of flowers! I can tell you what i would tend to favour! From what i have seen on this site MC is a really helepfull chap, and his name has been passed to me from someone else i know is very handy with an engine. I have never met him, or spoken to him but it dont take a geniuose to realize he knows his stuff.

MC you seem to be taking offense when no offense is being aimed at you. I can beleive your Nova is fast and that you know your stuff, but to say that you can beat RG GT turbos, Fiesta turbos etc From the lights - I just thought this was untrue! What have you raced from the lights that has beaten you?
Ps I dont think myself or Gaz453 Slagged your car off - just found it hard to beleive that you say it will beat turbo's!

You havent answered any of my questions! It comes down to common sense m8. Fiesta RST = 133bhp weighing about 900kgs with turbo lag. R5 GTT 120bhp weighing about 750kg with turbo lag. My car 129.8bhp weighing less than 700kg with no turbo lag and a close ratio gearbox with a long 5th. Work it out! I`ve beaten more than one R5, but the first time I wasnt sure if I would or not. When I pulled in at our destination, the driver of the R5 got out of his car and asked me what engine I had, to which I replied "A 1.4" to which he replied "Naaaaaaaaa maaaaaan!" He would not believe me until I lifted the bonnet. He said that as I came past he noticed the SR badge and could not believe his eyes, he kept looking in his mirror and seeing a nova stuck to his arse. I just wanna add that his motor wasnt standard. Breeny and a few others were there to witness all of this. Why keep on calling me a liar? I dont think that people like u will ever be convinced that a turbo aint nething special. You can get huge power out of a turbo motor, but in standard form they aint that quick. Granted I`ve spent alot of money making my motor go quick, and if a the same was spent on a turbo`d 5 it could probably beat me, but there are too many cocky drivers out there that think they are invincible. I`d definately be beaten by the big boys like Cosworths imprezzas etc etc, I picked a race with a 911 and that whooped me. Come down to Donny on Sunday and I`ll gladly take you out for a spin, but please dont keep insulting me untill you`ve seen it for yourself, and b4 u say nething, yes u are insulting me by doubting my word, coz I have no reason to lie.

Fair enough mate I knew your car was fast, but having spoken to fellow Nova owners I thought you were one of them "My Nova Is Fast As **** And Will Beat Anything" kinda people. Unfortunately I wont be going to Donny but thanks for the offer of taking me for a spin. If ever I'm down your end or your up my end (North West) You'll have to give me shout coz i'd look forward to having a ride in a Nova with Turbo speed as I've not been in a faster Nova than an SRI! No probs m8, I just get frustrated when people think that turbos are unbeatable. Another v.fast Nova is CP`s. He also uses twin 40`s, but has a 1.6 and a the next head up from mine. It produces 150bhp and about 165lb/ft of torque. Now this would be quicker than most motors, especially as I think he is planning a strip out aswell. You said in a post about Freaks motor that Gaz`s produces 90 at the wheels and therefore 108 at the flywheel, thats 26bhp over std. You also said that it is standard, are you sure he hasnt got any sneaky mods that he isnt lettin on about? that must be pretty damn quick itself, respect to da novas! He accused me of tellin porkies! (not that I would accuse neone of that, I dont want to be a hypocrite)
