View Full Version : Which would be faster

Jack
09-10-06, 10:52 PM
Been debating this on the way back from Dorchester with a mate this evening.

Imagine if you had two rows of dominos, but instead of using actual dominos you had a row of bourbon biscuits and a row of custard cremes (rows of equal length of course). Which would fall to the end of the line faster?

Mmmm, custard creams. :)

im going to have to go with the bourbon lol

I believe they are taller than the custard creme, thus would have a greater rate of downward acceleration when toppled?

We'll see what the boys at the lab have to say before I post any concrete evidence, i am after all, a mere layman of biscuit topple technology

Oh dear....:confused::tard:

Jack
10-10-06, 08:36 AM
Well I thought bourbon as well, but then surely custard cremes - being shorter and IMO a little heavier - would fall faster? Although I suppose you could use less bourbons if they're taller. Dilemma!

Oh well I know what I'll be doing tonight, wonder if Tesco have any offers on biscuits lmfao

Dar
10-10-06, 08:50 AM
If you could optimize the lining up of the biscuits then the bourbons could be spaced further apart and therefore you could use less biscuits and make the line run faster.

If not the bourbons could have the advantage because they are taller and would hit the next biscuit at a lesser angle than the custard cr?me. However the rate of fall for the custard cr?me would be faster so that advantage maybe eaten up and the race could be a dead heat.

My concern is that if someone ate one of the biscuits in the middle of the line. If that was the case the line would be broken and the other biscuit would win. So it could depend on who is in the room, a bourbon fan or a custard cr?me fan.

Jack
10-10-06, 08:56 AM
Good point, didn't consider the Biscuit Eat Rate!

The bourbons would probably be more resilient to Biscuit Eat as, being taller, they might be able to fall across a gap and keep the chain going.

go out and buy several packets of economy custard cremes and bourbons... cheap ones are the same size and shape. Give it a go.

I reckon bourbon would be quicker... they're chocolate flavoured, so a bit heavier, so give more force when impacting on the next biscuit lol

burgo
10-10-06, 12:52 PM
in my opinion it all depends on wether it is equal spacing and what that spacing is

Riggy
10-10-06, 02:26 PM
i agree with dar , because the bourbons are taller they would hit the next biscuit first

but chocolate malted milk would kick both their ases

wisewood
10-10-06, 02:28 PM
I still reckon bourbon would win even if you used the cheap ones that were equal size as their custard cream counter parts.

For a start, the textured finish of a custard cream could create drag lol

novanutted
10-10-06, 03:01 PM
its all about aerodynamics really, being a proffesional in this topic for the passed 10 years, there are more grooves on a custard cream therefore allowing drag so they will fall slower(also they are fatter so acceleration wud b quicker in the long run)depending how many biscuits you lay out may depend on who finished first, bourbons have the quicker start though as being lighter thinner and less grooves causing drag.

p.s the biscuit pro

lmao

10-10-06, 03:03 PM
would anything like windmills and merry-go-rounds affect the speed tho ?? or stuff like the chute with the ball bearing run

wisewood
10-10-06, 03:10 PM
how can you be certain the bourbon would be lighter? i would say it was heavier... not much narrower, and quite a bit longer... thickness in similar.

Matt2107
10-10-06, 03:15 PM
The only way to solve it is to test it.

wisewood
10-10-06, 03:20 PM
as i said earlier - go out and buy some.

?0.49 Tesco Value Bourbon Creams (400g)
?0.49 Tesco Value Custard Creams (400g)

I reckon 10 packs of each should suffice lol

draper
10-10-06, 03:28 PM
^^ if you bought 20 packs of biscuit can you hanestly say you wouldnt have a few tho

wisewood
10-10-06, 03:33 PM
if i bought 20 packets of biscuits, i would eat them all - even after they've been laying on the floor for twenty minutes while you set up the "rally" lol

what if jammy dodgers got the thru the qualifying rounds - how would they compare ??

Alex.
10-10-06, 03:53 PM
Jammy dodgers are round. So they'd wobble when you stand them up. I reckon Bourbons would win, cuz of the density of the chocolate in the biscuit. And the cream inside is thicker then custard creams....

Plus Bourbons are so much more yummier :D:p

draper
10-10-06, 03:55 PM
but if you weighted the jammy dodgers jam up they fall quicker

Alex.
10-10-06, 03:56 PM
But then there would be an obstruction that would stop them falling as quickly because they'd be weighted.

draper
10-10-06, 03:58 PM
but, being top heavy require less force to topple them therefore resulting in less effort needed so should be quicker

Even if hobnobs could stand, they crumble easily. I cant remember what they're called, Dunkers i think, really thick, hard biscuits, covered in thick chocolate - designed for dunking in a hot drink - they're f*cking legendary those things. Could use them as a projectile to take out North Korea
