View Full Version : Does a nitrous kit NEED a progressive controller?
As above.
A fuel and nitrous kit.
Or can you just use it running off a throttle switch for WOT?
Im liking the idea of fitting some to my 1400 ;)
And seen a few cheap kits go on ebay for the same price as a set of 40s, inlet etc etc.
just do it to a flick switch/button,press it and get a shot of nos down each inlet port...

should think a switch on WOT will be ok as thats the only time u wanna use it anyway
a controller would be idel for trying to run "big" power....
any links to these kits youve seen as some are truely horrific!!! (ie Nitrous Express, NOS etc lol)
you dont need one but your engine will prefere it

it is not needed ules ur planing on running like over 100 bhp of nos then it would be advised but if the car is carbed u will need an injector plate insted of foggers

Errrrrrr lol
I've read a 20-40% power increase should be nice and safe on any engine in good running condition, and a progressive controller is required for when at low rpm/load etc, not WOT.

yea thats about right
I wonder if it would take enough to get it to XE sort of power, for a few seconds, Lol.
Talking of probably 60bhp needed tho.
a-ha, now i understand more lol
Lol
Its a switch fitted to the throttle lever/pedal which when the throttle is wide open it triggers the nitrous/fuel solenoids.
I guess the different kit quality shows, as the Wizard of Nos one is about ?500, and theres some for about ?360 new.
Also a couple of second hand kits for around ?200 ish mark.

I could guarantee the floor pan wouldnt fall out when you pressed it though.
Lmao.
Yeah, and all the street lamps will go blurred lol
But im really liking to idea of maybe a 120-130bhp 1.4 8v SPI.

i wouldnt be so sure - its a nova and ill be doing the welding lol

i run 100bhp on my xe without a progressor and it works fine in 2nd just can use it in first. it would be better to use a progressor due to the nitrous being delivered in stages instead of 1 big lot.

is your xe standard and taking that much or u running arp bolts ect im only running 25 on my xe but if urs holds 100 i think ill be putting bigger jets in
25 per port....on a button....
thats going to end in tears.....
a controller is needed for 50 shots and above really....

i run about 70bhp or near abouts on mine just off a button on my chav gear knob lol, it looks so gay but it works well. I like to have full control over my nitrous. Its great fun when it comes boost an nitrous, dances all over the shop.
Phil-Do you run a controller then?
Or just run the solenoids off the button on your gear knob? Lol
Do you have any pics of the engine bay and how you have the solenoids, tubing etc fitted?
To setup should be quite straight forward with the spi system, just fit the injector into the tubing, or the airbox itself just before the throttle body.
And the solenoids on the inner wing, or somewhere by the battery.
Its just getting the money together for the kit now,Lol.

i dont run any controller, its all done off push button on my gear stick. Basically i have a big arming switch on my dash which arms the system then the push button for completing the circuit, for how ever long the button is pressed the solenoids will open ect..
I have my injector fixed into the top hat of the inlet and positioned so that when it sprays nitrous and fuel it isnt just spraying it straight into the side of the it so it can be a mist so to speak. Ive but the solenoids as close to the injector as possible, here are some pics but it rather dark out.
also note how i have shiny bits and neat boost pipes lol

Ah ok, you've got the solenoids mounted on the firewall.
Are they ok there, i've read keep them away from hot areas due to it causing the nitrogen liquid to boil, but also to keep the lines from solenoid to injector quite short.
Cheers for the pics.

To be be fair they will get hot any where in my engine bay when im ragging it, the joys of having a turbo.
Aye true.
Looks like im heading over the Wizard of Nos forums, see if i find anyone selling a second hand Won kit.
