well the derv is dead again as my cv went plus some picky ******* smashed my window and stole the tools out of it whilst i went home to get a rope to tow it back, then when towing it back there was lots of nasty noises which sounded like something destroying itself!!! so what do i do

If thats your silver one you did the rear quarter on mate then keep her, once ya start doing stuff like that you get kinda attached to them and its a shame and a waste after all the graft you already put in, keep it and one more of the diminishing number of novas left stays on the road!!!
And we all go through stages of them breaking down all the time but you`ll get through it (once youve replaced nearly the entire car lol) but look how easy and cheap they are to fix, KEEP IT, well i think you should anyways!!

Doesnt the shaft have a split ring that secures the cv joint in place.
If this wasnt catching the cv joint then as your driving it, it would fall apart.

I am probably talking complete bollocks.

So the nuckle part is fixed nice and tight but its still destroying itself.
Have you brought brand new cv joints as my dad pulled one apart when we did the gearbox on the fez. It looked ok so we put it back together but got 10m down the road before it ripped itself apart.

Well I'm done lol.

The only other thing I can suggest is that it was a dodgy one.
You could try one more and see what happens.

They are about ?35 a pop though aren't they?

Maybe its movement in the engine mounts putting strain on the cv clips etc, causing the joint to just pull apart in bits.

I'd imagine a torquey derv to put a lot of strain on the shafts/cv's.

^^ i thought it could be engine mounts from hitting the kerb a few weeks ago - or was it eating cv joints before the kerb ??

and id keep it, like you said all the work youve already put in and youll enjoy it more

i was gona say compare the length of the shaft againts another one, phil had the same prob on his Corsa yeah i know its got 300bhp power but its the same sypthoms and that was due to the shaft be a few mm short!!
