Ok, so I was at the traffic lights this morning and this dude in a 1.6 GSi Corsa pulled up alongside and started revving like ****, so obviously he wanted to race. I put it into first, lights turned green and my Nova SR left him off the mark and he wasn't really keeping with me, now he was giving it some stick but I think he kinda layed off in the end.

Why did this GSi not eat my Nova? My Nova is as standard apart from a K&N.

well Corsa Gsi's aint really that fast, i had my brothers Corsa Gsi off in my nova Sri With K&n :) and he wasnt keeping upto me , people under estimate the power of the nova :) hehe

Cheers, Dangermouse

Power to weight ratio will account for some of your advantage mate. Standard corsa will weigh more than a standard Nova. Im not sure what the gearing is like on a GSi Corsa either. As Draper says, there is always the chance the lad couldn't drive, I've seen plenty of powerful cars driven badly at Goodwood racetrack, often being lapped by less powerful, better driven machinery.

ive figured it out - its your billy bolt-on 40bhp extra k+n !! lol

It wasn't a corsa gsi...
Or had a fooked engine
Or he wasn't trying.

109bhp vs 72bhp.........

Corsa GSi`s arnt what they cracked up to be, I used to think they were reasonably quick

109bhp vs 72bhp

then you must consider the weight difference as well, im sure corsa gsi's weight about a ton being the fat overweight car they are.

Corsa gsi's are not fast in anyway what so ever.

Imo, i dont see the weight difference making up for 35-40bhp difference.

Its not the engine that lets the corsa GSi down, its the inlet and fuelling system.

Plug some TBs into it and it turns into a monster!

the corsa gsi is about 960 kg, if i remember right the nova 700 ish power to weight isnt that much difference at all.

Adam

The corsa will have a better power to weight ratio than the nova.
Just about. Lol

Novas weight is more than 700.

I think the corsa if running properly will win

dunno there not really that quick, but like said before its down to the driver, he could have been changing gear at like 2500 revs????????? but who knows suppose we'll never find out will we.

A car is only as fast as the person driving it.

Although he could have been revving just to get a rise out of you. I've done it a few times, sit next to certain cars and rev up... then just pull away normally lol

yeah but then they will go away an tell their whole crew that they smoked you off the lights. To be fair ive had that before some chavs in a 1lt corsa burn off the lights next to me. Probably gone an told every one that their 3 cylinder bad boy can dust a 2lt turbo lol

having owned a couple of both id say my corsa gsi's were definatly faster than the sri's ever where! imo the corsas go quite well:)

most novas (esp gay ones used in TLGP's) will weigh about 850-900Kg (with driver and ice crap) and a corsa gsi is probalby about a ton with driver....

so the power is relevant afterall lol.

If my sources are correct;

when lotus delivered the c16xe to vauxhall it was 145bhp, making more power than vauxhalls 2.0's and nearly with the 20xes. So vcauxhall decided that would be stupid thing to do, so restricted the c16xe back down in power.

the way they done this was to add 7 90degree bends in between air filter and injectors and 10 feet of pipe.

Paul

Or that is total bollocks but im 90% sure its true

Adam

Aye, thats true.

Which is why swapping the inlet for a manztel type effort adds about 20bhp.

And massive gains are possible with TBs.

I noticed while removing the engine from the Spin this afternoon, that the plate riveted to the slam panel states a gross weight of 1260kg!!

WTF??
